The way the rear quarter & rear wheel look so far pushed out, with the little flare on the wheel arch, in that first pic - ewww.

Funny: One of my best friends will be in charge of the post production steering adjustment for that... He's going to the US for 3-6 months for that...

I think it is ghastly but that is oart of the SUV charm but compare that to a Porshe my god it is almost handsome. Is it just me who sees this but leave the X5 as is, make it smaller and call it the X1?

Overall, I'm quite impressed with the new X5 however its still got iDrive and thats a big concern in my eyes images/smilies/dunno.gif They say its "revised" but I don't know the extent of it.

The X5 ticks all the right boxes, particularly having 7-seats which the M-Class doesn't. The rear seats look suitable only for children but its got 7 of them so expect to see many X5's terrorising school zones near you.

This WILL SELL images/smilies/vampire.gif

Have you ever driven with Idrive? As long as you aren't 60 or older and never touched a PC you won't have a problem with it...

Haven't driven with iDrive but have given it a good ol' test as a passanger on a long trip. You sound as if you think I don't know how to use iDrive. Well thats not true because my issue with iDrive lies not with the operation of it, but the role it plays in the car. I like scanning the radio and finding something good to listen to - its annoying that it can't be done through radio preset buttons on the dash rather its done all through iDrive. Its annoying enough as a passenger, but as a driver, it would be even more frustrating I think.

Yeah, I've driven a 530i with iDrive and I spent the first 10 minutes sitting in the driveway figuring out how to operate it. It is a bit counter-intuitive at first (getting used to the rotating, and flicking of it) and I would find it annoying to go through 3 sub menus to change the radio station.

I would prefer the big controls to still be buttons, a la Audi.

Heres an article that put me off iDrive long ago. It's the beginning of a review of the then "new" 5-Series:

Quote:
There's a sticker in the new BMW 5-Series that tells you everything you need to know about the mid-sized motorcar. This permanent post-it, affixed just beneath the infamous iDrive controller, has a tiny arrow pointing left and the words "Climate, Air Dist. and Vent Temp".

Before iDrive, BMW drivers adjusted the vent temperature with a small wheel between the vents. This easy-to-use function was originally created and sold as a safety feature; cold air on a driver's face aids alertness. With the new 5-Series, not only do you have to be computer literate to cool your fevered brow, but you have to take your eyes off the road to do it.

First, you push the iDrive controller down to release BMW from corporate liability. Then you nudge the controller left to select "Climate". A hieroglyphic appears. Twist the knob for the correct function, press it, twist it, look up to avoid oncoming traffic, look down, press the iDrive mouse again and… I think I've made my point. Which is simply this: BMW's new 5-Series is a deeply conflicted automobile. It still aspires to be "the ultimate driving machine", but it no longer knows how.

yup... was in my uncles 530i in Malaysia in January and I actually got dizzy trying to operathe the iDrive while he was driving... obviously he was better than me, but I think after a while using it, it gets quite easy

it isnt terribly confusing, but it is a lot more complicated than it has to be. Cramming that many different systems into one little knob isnt a recipe for success. Same can be said about MB's COMAND system. Audi's MMI isnt as bad, i would say its the best "all in one knob" that the Germans make.

well, I think it's a quite good looking car. Especially if you compare it to the current X5, its much more better for me. Also the interior is way more better than the current one.

This time they've also added the luxury gadgets to X5 and increased the power of the engines. 7 seats is also a plus. So I think that this one will beat Q7 and sell a lot... lot more than the current x5
