2007 Honda Civic Type R.

Honda today unveiled the 2007 Civic Type R, a high-performance version of the Civic hatchback for the European and Asian markets. Referred to by Honda as a "superhatch," the new Type R continues to be powered by the naturally-aspirated, high-revving 2.0-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine but the unit has been significantly reworked to improve responsiveness using a new balancer shaft and drive-by-wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the engine structure. Further development of the Type R unit means more useable torque, as the switch to high-lift, long duration valve timing (the cam change) now takes place at a lower 5,200rpm, and continues all the way to 8,000rpm. Max output is now 201 horsepower at 8,000 rpm, compared to 200 horsepower at 7,400 rpm. Acceleration to 62 mph takes 6.6 seconds — identical to the previous car.

Like the Type S, its rear track is 20mm wider than that of the 5-door model, but otherwise damper, bush and spring characteristics are all unique to Type R.

Broad 225/40 ZR18 tyres provide added grip, while a 15mm reduction in ride height further reduces body roll. Firmer steering, a quicker ratio and stiffer steering box mountings all provide pin-sharp responses to steering wheel input, while the fuel tank's central location beneath the cabin floor helps to lower the centre of gravity and reduces the body's inertia moment.

Extra strengthening has been introduced into the floor cross member just ahead of the central fuel tank, around the upper front suspension mountings, while the lower cross member (just ahead of the engine bay) provides greater rigidity. The overall result is a more predictable chassis, with levels of responsiveness and stability that are some of the best in class. At the same time, the damper settings deliver enhanced ride comfort, so the Type R is easier to use in all conditions and on all surfaces.

i really like the interior. kinda confusing, but fun, interesting and has a nice racing feel.
not sure on the power delivery, seems quite high up in the rev-range...

Looks like an egg outside (but so does the new GTI and I love that car, so it'll grow on me).... but the interior is just astounding!

at interior...it's not busy enough. There's not enough random buttons scattered around for no particular reason. Why not stick the HVAC knobs on the door armrest?

The car is too busy inside and out. Like it was designed as if Honda thought their target consumer might not be interested in it because they have short attention spans and every detail needs to be busy, busy busy!.

Perhaps I am right.

am I the only one that thinks this resembles a Peugeot 206 GTI? But I'm not liking the exterior, it looks somewhat odd shaped... I still love the EK9 images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I like the air vent on the left but the center air vent looks like it was second thought. should have done the same thing but from the bottom it would not cover the navi screen and make it look more smooth

How much does the Type R weigh in comparison to the regular Civic?

It looks horrible. I'd gladly take either of the previous gens. This thing looks like it weighs 4,000lbs, half of it from the interior.

Ok, when I first looked at it I was a bit excited but the more I stare at that photo the more I hate it. The current Civic has a great interior design - it's funky enough to be cool but not so over the top to be scary or annoying. This has too many shapes and too many overlapping curves and lines going on while the controlls seem stuck on as an after thought.

The current Civic has a much better design inside.

I like the exterior, but I'm not sure about the interior. I like classic dials, and the ones in the previous CTR were just perfect. The central rev counter is alright, but the digital speedo? images/smilies/unsure.gif

I actually don't have a problem with the digital speedometer, my dad's RX8 has one and I like it. I also sat in the current Civic that has the high-mount digital display and it does work. It's the rest of the dash that bugs me.
