2008 Audi A5 revealed

Audi will display the all-new 2008 Audi A5 at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The A5 is the German automaker's first large coupe, slotted somewhere between the A4 and A6 sedans. Considerably larger than the TT coupe, the A5 is marketed as a true four-seater.

Audi is expected to offer a 3.0 liter TDI V6 model, as well as a 3.2 liter FSI V6. Later, high-perfromance S5 and RS5 variants will be offered. What's more, an A5 convertible will eventually replace the A4, S4 and RS4 Cabriolets.

Transmission choices for the new two-door will include six-speed manual, CVT, and DSG gearboxes. All-wheel-drive will be offered across the board. Audi promises razor-sharp handling thanks to an engine placement behind the front wheels, resulting in better weight distribution than any existing Audi, aside from the mid-engine R8.

It's quite nice. Not a hornbag of a car by any stretch, but svelte in the way only Audi knows how.

I'd be very torn if I had to choose between this and a 3-series coupe...

Why do official pics with such ugly rims?

Oh yes, I like that very much. So classy and stylish, yet with a hint of aggro - never thought I'd see an Audi with coke bottle hips, but there they are, and they look fantastic.

No contest, for me this wins, no doubt whatsoever.

Not difficult to see at which competitor the A5 is aimed - it's very similar to the 3Series Coupe which is not a bad thing.

does kinda look like the 3 series coup....

especially at the back where they have made perhaps the worst design choice...including lights stretched from the wings into the tail gate. i hate that quite alot, it ruins the looks and in the case of BMW when they started doing it on their 3 series it looked like an after thought too.

Looks good. I always thought that A5 will be the answer to the BMW 6 series, but it realy looks more like a 3 series coupe (especialy from the rear).

Take that over a BMW 3-coupe any day.

Dash shouts a little 80s to me, though..
