Quote:
DaimlerChrysler today unveiled the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG, which will be on display at the 2007 New York Auto Show. The powerful AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine familiar from the S65 AMG and SL65 AMG twelve-cylinder models finds its way into the new CL-Class with the launch of this AMG model.

The V12 has a displacement of 5,980 cc, maximum output of 612 hp maintained between 4800 and 5100 rpm, and maximum torque of 1000 Newton meters from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm.

Standard features include AMG body styling, 20-inch AMG forged wheels, the unique AMG interior and highly advanced technology, such as AMG sports suspension, based on the Active Body Control system, and the anticipatory occupant protection system Pre-Safe. At the front, the 8.5-inch-wide wheels are fitted with 255/35 ZR 20 tires, while 275/35 ZR 20 tires equip the 9.5-inch-wide wheels at the rear.

he drive power of the new CL65 AMG is transmitted to the wheels by the AMG Speedshift five-speed automatic transmission with AMG steering-wheel gearshift paddles and Direct Select gearshift. An "S/C/M" mode button in the center console allows the driver to choose between the "Sport", "Comfort" and "Manual" driving programs. As well as changing the transmission characteristics, these modify the accelerator response and the spring/damper settings of the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control.

The AMG high-performance brake system with new double-frame sliding calipers offers maximum deceleration without fading: under emergency braking from 100 km/h at the permissible gross vehicle weight, the CL65 AMG comes to a standstill in 35.6 meters; this represents a maximum deceleration of 11.1 m/s2.

Overall it's not bad, actually. I don't like the front end and the carbon fiber inside is out of place. Overall it is an improvement over the recent Mercedes products. The profile is much more attractive and they have given more thought to the fender treatments so they don't look like holes cut into the body as an after thought. I like the lack of a B-pillar.

The pillarless doors and the profile look good. The rest is either too vague or too busy.

the "one out of 40" on the centre console is lame, the clock is strange and what good are engine-bay pics nowadays? Who cares what kind of engine-cover they fitted this time?

I creamed my pants when I saw this at the motor show last earlier this month. It looks so much nicer than the standard CL models (which look awful!). This really is a beautiful car. 612bhp, yummy.

It's only a small sticker...

If anything, carbon fiber as sporty interior decor is getting really cliche and irritating. Can we humans only think of 3 types of trim: aluminum, wood, and carbon fiber? We sure are boring.

Carbon Fibre inside is a bit tacky and I also don't like the C/F rear diffuser.

Agree on the CF... a little might have been good but the whole interior is draped in it. It's way too much.

What's with the new keyhole? It's a start/stop button?

Wow that is just beutiful! images/smilies/wub.gif As watto said - the AMG version really transforms this car because in normal form, I don't like the style of the CL.

Love those wheels and all the body styling ad-ons. I especially like that colour! The interior looks incredible - such quality is evident. And for once in my life, I like carbon fiber inside a car as it contrasts nicely with the different tones of leather.

Yanks better pray they change that CF to chrome. That will sell well there.

Now that is a true thing of beauty. Like so many others, I don't like the standard version at all, it's just ugly in so many ways. This then, is just gorgeous. Want one badly.
