but the evo is based on the lancer, so the two are going to be close.

I think that looks utterly boring and ugly. All the agression the concept posess has been lost. Now it looks like a lancer

the front looks nice i think, but it doesn't fit the rest of the car. much to agressive
more a front for a car like an slk or opel tigra, i think it would look great on such a platform |

I wouldn't even say the Evo is based on the Lancer; the only things they have in common is some interior bits, and at a very basic level, the unibody.

This generation will probably get closer to the EVO, since they plan to make "a toned down" EVO in between the EVO and the plain Lancer (a sort of Ralliart version).

looks cheap. not just because it is cheap being the Lancer, it just looks it. If the evo resembles that, i think they are going to lose alot of the potential market.

Hmmm...I do think it's an improvement over the current stardard-spec Lancer (probably the slowest rental car I've ever driven) by a bit...I mean, it is trying to be a mass-market family sedan...but I do think it'll take well to the Evo treatment. All it would really take os a more vibrant paint job, a front spoiler/air dam/splitter and the middle section blacked-out, and you're about 99.5% there.
edit: Ooh! And don't forget!! It shares it's platform with the brand-new hothothot Chrysler Sebring!! *said with a sarcastic tone...but it's true.* |

Ugg, they did that with the last gen...the Ralliart edition consisted of stickers, 15" Oz rims, and some crapwork to the interior. Always laughed when I'd see them in Canada with a huge Evo-wannabe spoiler...

It may be a proper Ralliart this time, sharing more components and aiming for the non-STI WRX.

I'm betting the Evo will look more like the concept than the vanilla Lancer. Here's two more pics of the sporty model:

Hopefully the Evo version wont look so...underwhelming. Does anyone else think the back looks like its from the Mondeo concept?

The front 1/4 view definitely says Volvo S40 to me- the hood, headlamps and the roofline. It looks much more like an appliance than the concept. I'm sure the corresponding EVO will look much better.

if i wanted a boring looking car, i'd buy a 2005 corolla, not a lancer, but this lancer makes you want to reconsider. tough call... which is more boring. i think it kinda resembles a mazda 6 in some weird way if you hide the front bumper and grill. At least the Mazda 6 is decent looking though. |

Perhaps the expectation is just too high, or perhaps the hype is simply over the top, however, having seen the Evolution concept, this is such a big disappointment.
Big big big disappointment. |

i have a question for everyone who is defending this car. in another page there is a 10th gen Toyota Corolla. to me it is a much much better looking car then this thing pictured above, granted it is a very boring car at the same time. Now this lancer looks dull to me. my question is, are you people making excuses for it because of what potential it has? or do you honestly believe it's a better looking car then the corolla?
my guess is that you are all thinking it looks good because of it's track record vs. actaully looking at the sheet metal that's covering the frame. Please correct me if i'm wrong. |
