UPDATE

I noticed quite a few people asking about a manual transmission. Here is your answer from GM:

The base G8 model receives a 3.6L DOHC V-6 with variable valve timing, rated at 261 horsepower (194 kW). It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

The G8 GT is powered by a uniquely configured 6.0L small-block V-8, rated at 362 horsepower (270 kW) and 391 lb.-ft. of torque (530 Nm). A six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode is standard and features the fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system, which enhances fuel economy by alternating between eight- and four-cylinder power. An optional six-speed manual transmission will be available soon after launch.

A manual on the base version would have been nice but their choice is understandable considering the market.

Yes, I like that a lot. Well done GM. I agree that a Manual should be offered throughout the range on a car like this.

Does anyone else not like these V8s with "the fuel-saving Active Fuel Management system, which enhances fuel economy by alternating between eight- and four-cylinder power?"

Just seems like something to go horribly wrong.

In light of all the stigma attached to cars these days and eco nazis painting gloom and doom it is rather unavoidable. Gotta be grateful that we still have V8's I guess. And let's face it, when you cruise along on the hwy 8 or 4 active cylinders, rarely matters.

That grill goes a long way back on Pontiac cars, so it was to be expected.

I've always loved the look of Pontiacs over Chevrolets back when both lines were carbon copies.

The Limited slip differential should be standard on all models.

WOW !!! I absolutely love it. It looks sooooo agressive and up to no good. Damn....GM seems to be on a bit of a roll here. A 4-door saloon with a 362bhp V8, LSD and looks like that. My god I like this thing a lot. And the color in the picture is just spot on. Give me one of these with the 6-speed manual, leather seats and automatic AC right now !!

Are Pontiac planning on bringing out some other Commodores which have more power. England is getting the VXR8 which is also a Holden Commodore but it can produce 540bhp. Im sure if the Americans love the 362bhp model they will apsolutely adore the 540bhp version.

It is highly likely that a GXP version will come along.

Lordy lord help me, if the interior and quality is up to snuff (should be as it's built in AUS), I may seriously consider dumping my S4 for one of these.

Wonder how much a Holden interior, front and rear conversion kit will go for. images/smilies/wink.gif
