Default 2010 Pontiac G8 ST Will Get V6 (3.6 DI) and V8 Engines

Quote:
DETROIT — Contrary to what Pontiac has announced thus far, the newly named 2010 Pontiac G8 ST quasi-pickup truck will be offered with both V8 and V6 engine options.

Pontiac's plan was to offer the ST with only the 361-horsepower 6.0-liter V8 from the G8 GT sedan. But according to a highly placed engineer at The General, the company will bow to fuel economy pressures and also offer the 3.6-liter V6 when the ST goes on sale late in 2009 as a 2010 model.

The 3.6-liter will not, however, be the same 256-hp unit that is currently the base motor for the G8 sedan. Instead, the ST and (beginning with the 2010 model year) the sedan will get the direct-injection version of the 3.6-liter that makes slightly more than 300 hp in various applications, including the base Camaro motor and the upgrade Cadillac CTS engine.

Does anyone know if Holden is planning to offer the 3.6l DI V6 in their versions?

Holden don't offer DI in any vechicles currently but it's tipped to be soon added in VE series 2 (or VF)

I don't think they've actually announced the name for it, and for the time being it's just been referred to as "ST"

You make it sound as if a 300hp v6 is somehow going to be more depressing than a 2 liter (non turbo) engine in a VW Jetta.

El Camino got the most votes in their naming contest, and, since that was a Chevy name, they decided against using it, so it's almost official that the name will just be G8-ST.

If that`s the case then why don`t they realise that people want it to be a CHEVY!!! images/smilies/cool.gif

Pontiac doesn`t make trucks.

I just wish Detriot would make v6s sound proper, theirs too much emphasis on having them sound like V8s (old camaros v6s as a example.) Because of this i think anybody looking at a V6 will be turned off as GM will probably shoot themselves in the foot and make a car that sounds more like a poseur then a unique alternative.

What do "proper" V6's sound like then? I think the GM ones sound awesome.

Yeah, with the way engine designs have evolved, you don't need 8 cylinders to make big power, although it is nice. images/smilies/tongue.gif This DI V6 from GM makes the same power as the 4.6L V8 in the Mustang GT. So giving it alittle growl is fine with me.

I haven't heard a holden 6 up close but i find it hard believe it sounds worse then a ford inline 6 since they have pretty much no noise. They should be striving to make it sound like the vr6.

Really? The fg xr6 we test drove had barely any noise and the noise it did have wasn't great. Same with my grandpa's bf xr6.
