Default Another cute car from Japan: Daihatsu Basket

Daihatsu Basket concept

Japanese automaker Daihatsu revealed the Basket concept at the recent Tokyo Motor Show. The back to basics vehicle was designed for Japanese people looking to escape crowed urban areas and those living in rural environments.

The four-seat concept features a removable hardtop roof over the front seats and a removable canvas top over the rear seats. It includes a B-pillar basket handle that extends over the top of the car, similar to the Mk1 Golf cabriolet from the 1980s. At the rear, the wide deck and folding rear seatbacks have been designed to carry a multitude of items.

And I love it!

considering it probably weighs less than my eyebrows, I bet it'd be a fun little thing to toss around

I really like it.

I have no problems with cars like this whatsoever. It's the hybrid/computer laden/overweight/feel good about yourself/LED everything concept cars that give me headaches.

And the name is perfect. I never thought I'd say it but I'm glad this car looks like a basket.

The thing I like about this is the same thing I like about the Copen; it's SO ridiculous that if you drove it, you wouldn't look like an idiot, because to drive it you'd have to be completely 100% confident and self-assured. Not a poser, not self-obsessed, not overly serious about your image.

It looks fantastically stupid. Not something I would personally drive, but I wouldn't mind seeing them on the road

Does anyone else think it looks like a shrunken version of the convertible Espace? Maybe they took it through the carwash on too hot of a setting.

Probs, but that's what secondhand V8s are for.

I really like it. It's not trying to be anything more than it is - basic and unpretentious.

Having said that, the canvas back roof looks really silly. If it reaches production - and I hope it does - I hope it comes with a hardtop option for there, or a Fiat 500 / New Beetle style folding roof.
