i think people are getting it all wrong
people are saying 'ooh id rather a DB9 than this'
but its a completely different aston
it ISNT a fancy DB9
it ISNT a DBS-S
what this is, is the ultimate aston martin, as the Enzo is the ultimate Ferrari, the 8c is the ultimate Alfa, and, more suited, the Reventon is the ultimate Lamborghini

now, im not saying that DB9s are consumer cars, but in relation to the One-77, it is
im sure many people would buy a DB9 because they love astons. But for cars like that you have a market. Ferrari 599, Bentley Continental. They're competitors to the DB9
The One-77 though is in its own market. It has no competitors because it isnt a car you buy for a purpose, and the only people who buy one are the people who simply love the car.

If you were honestly given the choice of a One-77 or a DB9, i can guarantee that almost everyone would have the One-77, even if you think the DB9's better looking or more convenient or whatever

its the kind of car you own, simply to own
and in the same sense, this is the car Aston Martin make, simply to make

I've reread your post a couple times and nowhere did you back up your opinion with any real solid points or facts, it just sounds like brochure rhetoric. In debate terms you would have given a 'non answer'.

AshDav, while you are corect with most of your points, we still have to hear from Aston Martin what the engine of this thing is going to be.
I'm sorry but if it still has the regular 6.0 N/A V12 it will not be the ultimate Aston Martin. They have to put a little more effort in the drivetrain section to make it stand out from the rest of their cars.

Aston should buy a certain engine from Jaguar for this car.

Spoiler Text: (Click here to toggle display)

Dust off the 7.0 l V12 from the Jag XJR sportscars, road-tune it and slap it into the One-77. Then you've got a winner.

(don´t know why that´s in spoilers ... but if you think so ...)

sure a race-designed engine and all is a nice thought ... but why go for that when have a perfectly fit V12 already at hand? go through the extra-trouble for what? 50bhp more?

I was replying to the previous poster, and suggesting something different to the 6.0 V12 that Aston keeps using.

And I was making the point that your suggestion wasn´t really something that "different" and special ...

Couple problems with that -

1. Ford had the Jag V12 discontinued and a few years ago they had the tooling destroyed or sold off. No more V12s from factory sources and as far as I know there are no new blocks available.

2. Arguably, the 6L V12 Ford made out of two siamesed Mondeo 3L V6 engines is better anyway, especially with the 4v/cyl and DOHC that it has and the fact that it made more in NA form than the Jag 6L did. The Jag V12 was SOHC and 2V and on its best day made 150 less hp and 50 less lb/ft in 6L form. That's not to say that it couldn't have done better with more development (since in race trim it cranked out more than 800hp), but I think that that ship has, unfortunately, sailed.

What I was trying to say is that it will be pointless if they just slap the 6L V12 and tweak it to make 550bhp (which I fear they will). It just won't be much different from the DBS/DB9...

How do you know all this stuff about Jaguar, I mean, come on!?

I just focused on the rear lights a bit more, and decided that they are very nice indeed.

Simple solution, then.

6L V12...with a supercharger. The same...but different. Oh, so different!

I keep up with Jaguar stuff. images/smilies/biggrin.gif Seriously, though, the evolution of Jaguar is fascinating from a business and history standpoint.

I can tell you it's going to have a 700hp V12, so itll be a little more juice than the normal ones, and im guessing a new engine

Those things on the sides of the front lights look like it's crying.

Seriously, it's in no way a bad-looking car. From the side and from the back, it's as gorgeous as any AM is. The front needs some more work though, imho.

This thing just screams Sci-Fi supercar, ah if only this could be the next Bond car.

I'm not so keen on those weird vertical vents, but otherwise it is simply and utterly extraordinary.
