Audi RS 4 Avant spotted!!

The new RS 4 Avant was spotted only hours ago on the streets of Germany well before release. First impressions, it looks wide!! Love it, what a sleeper.

why do they call it RS4 again?

first they had the RS2
then the RS4
then the RS6

they started with RS2, and increased number with 2 each time

so logically, this should be called RS8

Can't explain the RS2 name but RS4 is called 4 bacause it's based on a A4. There is also a S4. The RS6 is based on the A6 (bigger model). There should also be a V10 S6 on it's way. A RS8 would have to be based on the A8 (the biggest model) which currently come in a S8 version. Not so sure they are going to make a RS8.

the RS4 is called RS4 because its based on the Audi S/A4, which has nothing to do with the RS6, which is based on the Audi S/A6.

The Audi RS2 on the other hand was based on the Audi S2 / Audi 80, since Audi had a different number scheme back then.

I know the upcomming S6 is going to be fitted with a slightly detuned version of the V10 from Gallardo like the new S8 has just been. I haven't heard anything about a RS6, but you can spank me and call me a girlscout if they don't make a new one. I wouldn't be surprised if they put twin turbo on the Gallardo V10, making one hell of a M5 killer.
BTW the German car magazines are also talking about a RS3, offcourse based on the A3.

There are rumours that it will hit the showrooms in 2007, being equipped with a 550hp FSI-Version of the Lambo V10.

Ok, there seems to be some confusion about this so i'm just going to sum up the Audi model range:

A3: Hatchback. Competitors: BMW 1-series, MB A-class, Ford Focus etc. Sportsversions: Former model had a S3 version and there will most likely be a S3 and maybe RS3 of the current version.
Audi TT: Small coupe. Competitors: Mazda RX-8, Nissan 350Z etc.
Sportsversions: TT coupé quattro sport
A4: Small sedan / stationcar. Competitors: BMW 3-series, MB C-class etc. Sportsversions: S4 and RS4.
A6: Sedan / stationcar. Competitors: BMW 5-series, MB E-Class, Cadillac CTS, Jaguar S-type etc.
Since there has recently come a new A6 the new sportsversions of this has not been presented yet, but a V10 S6 and RS6 are on their way.
A8: Executive Sedan. Competitors: BMW 7-series, MB S-class, Jaguar XJ, VW Pheaton etc.
Sportsversions: S8 equipped with a detuned 450 hp V10 Gallardo engine.

since the RS2 is made from 1994 - 1996
the RS4 from 2000 - 2001
and the RS6 from 2002 - 2004

and i figured they would care enough to make a special chassis for their RS models, and the next on would be (logically) called RS8...

There already is a RS4 at the moment with a N/A engine. There will be an RS6 2007 based on the current A6 with V10 Turbo.
