Default Audi S5 Cabrio Render and A5 Spy Shots

I think it looks gorgeous from this render, even in cabrio form images/smilies/drool.gif

With spy shots already out in the open, so to speak, anticipation is running rampant on the upcoming convertible version of the Audi A5/S5 coupe. The cabrio is anticipated to replace the convertible version of the A4, and is tipped to make its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

The photoshop rendering you see above was skillfully executed by Quinty, and gives us a pretty good idea of what the sporty S5 cabrio could look like. While its competitors opt for retractable hard-tops, the convertible A5 and S5 are expected to use a simpler (and lighter-weight) soft-top, surrounded by a chrome strip to class it up a little. Power will likely carry over from the fixed-roof version when the new convertible hits the market early next year.
Here's the mentioned spy shots....

and subsequent render.

Still looks good, but the S5 looks LOADS better. images/smilies/cool.gif

Quote:
We've lifted the lid on the hot new Audi A5 Cabriolet with these exclusive first pictures of the car undergoing testing in the hills of Switzerland.

There have been numerous computer-illustrations of what the A5 will look like but these first-glimpse exclusive pictures show the car completely undisguised and lay any theories to rest as to the soft-tops design. As expected the car is almost identical to the coupe and the choice of a canvas roof over the retractable hard-top is no surprise either.

Under the bonnet we expect the same engine line-up as for the coupe with a base 1.8-litre 170bhp four-cylinder petrol engine, followed by a 3.2-litre V6 producing 265bhp. Diesel-lovers can choose between a 2.7-litre with 190bhp and a 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 240bhp.

The car will make its first public appearance at the Paris motor show later this year.
Obviously those engine choices don't translate into the US market images/smilies/dry.gif
Which would be nice, cause they would lower the price with a base model with a 1.8T images/smilies/cool.gif

If it looks like that first render it's going to look brilliant.

Actually, knowing Audi and how great the A5 coupe looks, this can't be anything but terrific-looking..

Looks like a 3 series body with an Audi front end (from the blue picture).

Few cars look better with the ragtop on. I think this is one of them...

Makes the car much more desireable! Now just make it 90-10 Rear-front tq- and power-split and give it 600 bhp, and we might just have the best car in class!

Covers all the bases for me, it's an epic piece of design.

I've never driven a premium car with a fabric roof, but my experience with the fabric roof is kind of poor. I don't think I'd get a convertible without a folding metal roof. I know they're heavier, and I know they are fashionable, but I haven't seen a fabric roof that really does it for me any more.

Well, it looks about as good as any ragtop convertible could, but that's not saying much.

I know folding metal roofs add weight and cost and all that, but I'd still never pay my own hard earned cash for a car with a piece of cloth for a roof.

Funny, I feel exactly the opposite.... So many hardtop convertibles being made these days.... but they just don't look right. Get a proper ragtop, or just leave the roof on

Looks like a stretched Audi A3 cabrio. Audi design is becoming boring with all those copies.

^ I agree... it's still a better alternative to Merc and BMW, but all Audis are starting to have the Aston lineup syndrome. At least in Aston's case their basic design they keep using is beautiful, whereas Audi's new designs are just so plain and forgettable.

A5 still doesn't catch my eye as a coupe. I think the grille is too overdone, and there's a big "dead" section towards the rear.
