Default Audi TT RS Teasers

Quote:
These are the first teaser images of Audi's new TT RS, the model that will reunite the German brand with the five-cylinder turbocharged engine format made famous by its original 1980s Quattro.

The range-topping TT is fitted with a new 2.5-litre powerplant that uses the architecture of the firm’s V10 motor. A single turbocharger helps to create around 340bhp and 330lb ft of torque, and the engine uses direct injection to improve fuel efficiency.

The company has also released this sound clip of the Audi TT RS, in which it certainly appears to resemble a mid-1980s Quattro.

The TT RS will be able to crack 0-62mph in about 4.5sec and reach a limited top speed of 155mph. But buyers can also opt to have the top speed raised to around 175mph.

The car uses quattro four-wheel drive, with a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s unlikely that Audi’s seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission will be offered, as it cannot cope with the torque.

An uprated chassis includes new springs and dampers and thicker anti-roll bars. The brakes are bigger, too.

Styling upgrades include a deeper front bumper with R8-style intakes and a fixed rear spoiler instead of the regular TT’s speed-dependent item.

The TT RS coupé goes on sale next week, and a roadster is due later this year. Audi UK has not fixed the price yet, but expect the hottest TT yet to cost around £43,000.

It apes the R8 on the intakes, eh.

Shit, it does look like the R8 smaller bro.

Can't really fault it for anything, can you? Well, the spoiler is a little meh but the rest is a very nice package.

I am getting a little tired of seeing so many white cars though. If I knew white was making a comeback I'd have gotten a different coloured car.

How the hell did I miss that mp3 first time around? It sounds superb - love an I5 warble.

Looks great in the new pics too - like it's sucked to the ground.

I don't like it. The cabrio taints it. It's too glitsy. It's got an R8 steering wheel and that makes it look like a wannabe. 5 cylinders is what I expect in a Volvo or a VW, not an Audi. Should have kept it a six. It doesn't sound that great. Too flat. Not enough oompf. It doesn't climb the revs, it's got the same tone throughout. It sounds like it's just humming. I think the S sounds better. And that spoiler is as ridiculous as wearing sunglasses indoors. Those are the only types of people who will buy it I'm sure. I don't care about stereotypes, that's just what this car says to me.

Ever heard of the car that made Audi famous? Of course 5 cylinders is Audi.

I love it. Bit expensive, but who cares, with that sound, and that torque.

EDIT: Also: VW? I don't recall them ever making an I-5...

That's like saying I am a slobbering idiot because I drooled, said goo-goo ga-ga, and puked all over my mum in the 80's.

The I5 engine will drive up the prices and it won't be a better engine than the V6.

And if anyone argues weight I'll call them sporting dumb and bad drivers because they can't tell the difference between cornering ability and handling.

Well call me a bad driver then, because less weight improves every aspect of a car's behaviour - both it's cornering ability & handling (handling > cornering ability btw, unless you're actually in a race).

The I5 turbo should weigh less than the V6, produce more power & definitely more torque, and might also use less fuel. It's full of win.

Replace all the curves with Quattro-style angles and I'd snap that up in a second. Either way, this sounds awesome.

Saw the TT-S at Heathrow recently and that was impressive enough. This has a big price tag but it will be worth it.

I am trying to try to care about an RS version of the TT but all i really want is an RS5 and until i hear or see somthing come out of Audi saying they have dropped the single RS in production at a time policy all this means is a longer wait for the aforementioned RS5. That being said it do think the coupe is a pretty sexy looking machine and i have to say as a some what rabid fanboy of the older ANN and 3B powered hot audi's i do love the return of the 5cyl. Do we know if the motor is transverse or longitudinal? I am sure the boys over at 034 are already starting to drool at the prospect of a new turbo I5 to mess around with
