Default Caparo for the British Police?

Quote:
British police look to Formula 1 for help
Thursday 15th May 2008

Police in the UK could soon give speeding crooks a bit of a shock by chasing them down in 200mph Formula 1 supercars.

The space-age looking machine, the Caparo T1, is a two-seater 200mph car that is designed by the same engineers who made the McLaren F1 car driven by Lewis Hamilton.

According to the Daily Star, the Metropolitan Police are looking to use it as a rapid response vehicle to react to 999 calls after the car was given the all-clear to be used on UK roads.

A police source said: "The Caparo would ensure officers can get to the scene of a crime faster. It's certainly something we'll be looking at getting."
Source

Fairly sure I've read something about this before, but it ought to shut Clarkson and co. up about the shitty Astras they use. Obviously a Caparo would be useless in a car chase because it would probably catch fire, which wouldn't please the health and safety man, and it would only take a piece of imperfect tarmac with a height variation of 2cm to bring it to a crashing halt...

Besides, Astras arent all bad, who else caught that movie Vantage Point with the epic car chase involving some psyco security guard and an indestructible blue Astra? Terrific stuff! images/smilies/lol.gif

They will need to wear full racing gears, unless they want to end up being roasted like our dear "Jason baked potato"

Just a publicity stunt. It always is. Australian police were 'given' an Exige, and a few other cars, I think.

Just like how the SA police get M3 and STIs as their highway patrol cars but never put them into action.

The fastest police car that I've seen on the road is a 540i and Golf V GTi, let alone a M3 or Scooby.

Lying fucks are trying to scare TLGP racers!!images/smilies/mrgreen.gifimages/smilies/lol.gif

Too bad that everyone knows the truth, they come after us with their shitty Citi Golf/Toyota Tazz/RunX 1.4i, good luck trying to catch the crooks.

I think they used the exige because I seemed to recall one of the officers saying that there utility belt snagged on the door frame or something getting in or out.

The Victorian police were loaned a 300C and they used that for general police duties.

lol will the be doing the team america secret signal when the floor falls off or it catches fire? lol

this is the daily star so whatevers been said has probably been taken out of context and is probably now entirely false.

but if they did do it.

waste of time and money. the police dont need caparo's to catch criminals. they'd be better off with hot hatches or evos or something. heck they have the perfect cars now. volvo T5's and Octavia VRS's theyre plenty fast

it would be an astronomically epic win if you were a speeder and saw this in your rearview mirror

broken down
and on fire

as for using it on the road by real cops : they'd probably crash it before it had a chance to self destruct anyway. just publicity

Astra's are cool, if you get them with a nice and powerful engine that is (none of that 1.4 90hp bullcrap)

That's probably the dumbest police car ever, they are not going to get anywhere faster than in a AMG Merc or something because they can't go where the Merc can so they have to take detours.

If Jeremy Clarkson couldn't get it round corners on an airport track, then why would it be possible driven by cops on a rubbish 40-odd years old road that half of its tarmac is missing?

I don't think the car takes corners any slower than an Enzo or any of the other high caliber supercars. Its just that the cornering ability is minuscule compared to the acceleration and braking. Basically you feel like are in a formula car, but because of the street tires, the cornering is just not as expected. There is only so much that street tires can do.

Also, I read that the police version was never built?

If true, (Daily Star) one of the most stupid ideas in the whole world - obviously! You can just see this thing going splat into the side of a bendy bus can't you? Average speed of traffic in London = about 20 MPH!

At rush hour :
Average speed of a car in London is just 7mph, says Citroen
