Chrysler never really went forward under Daimler, and so Cerberus is trying to cut the fat that should've been lost before the turn of the century. I think the one thing they've got going for them right now is that, aside from minivans and the Avenger, they're selling some of the best-looking cars in the market today.

A little question...
When Daimler sold Chrysler to Cerberus, did they also get rid of Freightliner ? Just wondering, after the Transit connect stuff I read in another thread, people seem to think that the Sprinter is a better option. If Freightliner was sold in the same package, what will Cerberus do about having to continue buying vans from MB ? |

If they are killing the Pacifica, why not just put the engine into the Journey as is, instead of detuning it?

I lost all faith in Cerberus turning Chrysler around after they destroyed The Demon by making it FWD and Chinese. Now they are killing off The Viper, and I suspect the new Challenger will be cut after a five year run.
At least GM and Ford are attempting to turn themselves around, Chrysler seems to be returning to the 80s. |

Chrysler actually made big bucks in the 1980s during recovery, by taking a simple and basic car, creating multiple variations, some sporty, some...not.
But the K-car was the saviour for them. Plain, simple, inexpensive engineering that did the job. Right now, they could do a lot worse than getting back to cars people really want to buy. Improve the smaller cars and focus on high mileage. Dump everything that doesn't fit in that category. Become known as "the American Toyota" and make a lot of money. Steve |

The K-car won't work in today's auto industry. Korean manufacturers are already making cheap and reliable cars. The crapy and cheap strategy won't work for them now.

Freightliner has been a Daimler company since the 80's. They aren't going anywhere. Well, they are (partially-moving states), but that's a different story.

My cousin had a Dodge Shadow that had recorded talking warning messages. Was that optional or what?
argatoga, don't knock the LeBaron man. We had one of those for a summer when I was a kid, damn fine car. It was our first convertible and it rocked my 11 year old socks. |

I think that was optional, I know a friend who had one. It never actually "talked" otherwise he would say how neat it was to make the most of a bad item. The car was certainly very bad with lots of issues but very cheap.
