Default Corvette Museum Sales Initiative Program: Save the Vettes!

This is interesting. An anonymous beneficiary and member of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky has issued a CHALLENGE!

Basically, if we (the general population of America) convince 100 people who don't own a GM car to buy a GM car (Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Saab, Cadillac, Hummer), the unknown member will donate $25k to the Corvette Museum. Must be a new GM car, model year 2007, and must be done by August 31, 2006.

Official link here
Jalopnik link here

Sounds interesting. Will it work? Well, ARE YOU READY FOR A CHALLENGE?!

Umm, no.

I'm not going to twist the arm of anyone I know into a GM product if they don't want one. GM is on the rocks and the only thing saving them from a buyout is their horrible sales figures and debt. No one wants them.

GM is almost paying customers to take their cars away and even at that no one is biting, I don't think I could get anyone to purchase a GM car if I gave them the $25K.

$25,000... In return for 100 GM cars being sold?

Is that supposed to sound generous? Because it doesn't. He sounds like a cheapskate. If he was going to donate half the value of the 100 cars (i don't know, a million roughly?) or more, then i would see the big deal.

Probably some inside stealthy marketing trick by GM themselves :p "Hey, we sell 100 cars and only need to pay out the cost of one!".

Eh, don't shoot the messenger, I doubt it's going to work either. Maybe if I got my dad to buy me a Solstice GXP, or a Z06 for that matter.

Heheh.

If you assume they make $1,000 per car in profit, that means they get £100,000 from this total. Minus the $25,000 for the donation...that's a $75,000 profit!

More profit than GM has seen in a long while.

Nope, I won't buy a GM car for a long time, except for a Z06.
