Tune that puppy and you will serve just about everyone other than hardcore racers, and they just aren't that big a market.

After all, the Mini is FWD yet you see tons of them at track days.

The MazdaSpeed 3 gets great reviews and it's FWD. Same for the Euro Focus ST.

As much as I'm a purist, I can totally understand this decision.

Steve
You're correct. Except that platform's suspension has NO room for adjustment. On the SRT-4 Neons (probably the same on the Caliber) there was no camber adjustment, even with a camber bolt.

Unless they rework the suspension geometry, the Demon will be horrible. RWD or not at all with a small convertible.

Chrysler does pretty well at quick FWD vehicles, actually. The Spirit R/T and the Daytona VNT were outstanding in their day.

The problem I see is that they are returning to their old, crap but cheap strategy. Unfortunately for them this won't work anymore, as they now need to compete with the Korean companies who can make cheap and reliable cars.

Woahhhh, hold on...

Front wheel drive? Ok, I suppose we can deal with that. The SRT-4 was pretty cool.

But built on the Chery?!?!? Sorry, Chrysler, but you've just lost a potential customer. For life.

That's a bit of an overreaction, don't you think? I wouldn't buy a Demon images/smilies/lol.gif, but the base V8 Challenger, with a lifetime powertrain warranty, sounds pretty tasty.

If building a car based on a platform designed and developed in China, for the Chinese market, with the safety record it has is an indication of times to come, I'll steer clear of Chrysler. This speaks volumes for their interpretation of "cost cutting" on future vehicles.

If they plan to sell it on this continent it'll have to meet US and Canadian safety regs.

There is no good news in this thread. Just kill the damn thing with fire, as well as the poor bastard who decided to build it on a cheap Chinese platform to begin with. Mazda and even GM are laughing their asses off as we speak.

Exactly. Cerebus may know finacial wizardry, but don't sheeeet about cars. The new MINI works well becuase it has style, character and charm...and from the get go it was made to be a FWD car you can toss around, much like the RWD Miata.

Glad that you see the light. images/smilies/smile.gif

I foresee flailing understeer from the Demon, but quick in a straight line, thus perpetuating a well worn and frankly annoying stereotype. And I do not hope they market this specifically to women, because I know of no woman who would be caught dead in a car called a demon.

So far I am not liking Cerberus - anyone got something they have announced that is brilliant yet?

Horrible news. Though the masses can't tell if a car is FWD or RWD, they can subjectively assess things like road feel, steering sharpness and balance. All of these are superior in a RWD car of any length bigger than a go-kart. It makes sense to keep these roadster RWD.

This annoucement means this is basically just a convertible Sebring with a crosshair grill. Fuck Chrysler, it's in the shitter already anyway. Snap up the Challengers boys, it's our generation's Studebaker Avanti

I agree with you there, but like thedguy said, it will still have to meet US safety requirements. It would surprise the hell out of me, but maybe Cerberus is smart enough to avoid blatant cost-cutting on the higher models. Case in point; that new Ram interior actually looks pretty decent.
