Default Driven: Skoda Octavia vRS

Unless you've had your head stuck in a bucket of sand for the past few months you'll know that there's been a hot-hatch revival going on.

Volkswagen kicked it off with the latest Golf GTI, followed by Renault, Vauxhall and Ford with their own tyre-smoking turbocharged family wagons.

The trend looks to continue in 2006 with the arrival of the latest car to be sprinkled with the hot hatch fairy dust - the second-generation Skoda Octavia vRS.

It's been tested in the last issue of aGerman car mag called Auto Motor & Sport and got five stars (on a scale from one to five stars, one = bad, five = excellent). I was really surprised because usually only rather big Mercs or Bimmers manage to do so, it should really be a good car then - and I don't think it looks too bad.

The old one was supposed to be great, and looked really nice in a sleeper kind of way, I didn't like the new model as much, smoothed the front off too much, looks too plain.

I think it's called fastback in English, it's been popular in the late 1980s / early 1990s over here (you could get the Opel Vectra Ford Mondeo, big Renaults or Citroens and most Japanese midsize cars as such), today there aren't that much models around to choose from (Currently, the Opel Vectra GTS and the Renault Laguna pop into my mind)

Saw one today at the dealers, look alot nicer in the flesh, apparantly theres a deal going on which can get £750 off and an equipment upgrade.

You are great images/smilies/thumbsup.gif images/smilies/thumbsup.gif Now I dont even have to get up and find my copy images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
I think the estate version is the best sold in Germany, so it's just logical to test that one.
