Default Electric/Hybrid cars too quiet. Sounds like a job for Bubba Rubb. Woo Woo!

http://cbs13.com/local/electric.cars....2.798947.html

Quote:
Electric and hybrid vehicles may be good for the environment, but a California lawmaker says they're bad news for the blind.

State Sen. Alan Lowenthal, a Long Beach Democrat, is pushing a bill aimed at ensuring that the vehicles make enough noise to be heard by the blind and visually impaired when they're about to cross a street.

The state Senate approved the bill Tuesday on a 23-12 vote and sent it to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has not taken a position.

It would establish a committee to study the issue and recommend ways the vehicles could make more noise. The recommendations would be due by 2010.

The state Department of Motor Vehicles says there are 248,000 gas-electric hybrid vehicles and 89,000 all-electric vehicles on the road in California. State traffic officials say they don't keep statistics on pedestrian accidents involving hybrid or electric vehicles.

I know! Let's take care of this AND the unemployment problem by limiting the electric vehicles to 5mph and have a crier/flagger with a safety lantern walking in front of it shouting "ELECTRIC CAR! BEWARE! ELECTRIC CAR! BEWARE!"

Yeah... that's going to make people want to drive those cars... images/smilies/tongue.gif Stupid Democrats.

How about an electric car protection suit? It is like an airbag and goes off if it senses an electric car protecting the wearer?

It is not ecologically sound and it uses those EEEEEEVIL chemicals ("known by the state of California to cause cancer") to inflate the bags, so California would never go for that. images/smilies/tongue.gif

They'll try to come up with something involving recycled paper and organic sprouts that doesn't work, costs 10x what that Impact rig costs, and then sue Impact for offering a superior product than what the state approves.

The funny thing is that at the other end of the spectrum, California has also been pushing for quieter and quieter cars - plus they ticket people for being 1dB over the car's original configuration.

So, like most eco-mentalists, you can't make them happy. Make a loud car, get a fine. Make a silent car, get penalized by having to add noisemakers.

Yes, that's true... but then the SAME idiots or rather groups of idiots then go forth and block any public transit construction. So you can forget about getting anywhere. These are the idiots that demanded more solar power, then protested when someone started the preliminaries to build a solar power plant in the middle of uninhabited and unwanted desert.

As long as you are alive, there is no pleasing California eco-mentalists.
