Default Flying Ferrari 599

At first glance this is the perfect April Fools story:

Quote:
The 'Autovolantor' - based on a £200,000 Ferrari 599 GTB - is being developed by "Moller International".

It will have the ability to take off vertically and hover thanks to eight powerful thrusters which direct air down for take off. Vents then tilt so the car can fly forward.

That's the least of their worries. They basically want to make a car that's like a Harrier Jump Jet.

Did he get bored of his original SkyCar? This really doesn't make much sense, unless there's some advantage to using a heavy chassis that is further weighed down by legislated gear that doesn't matter for an experimental flying car.

Well, it still took 2 posts until someone earned it. Also I can get rid of all those hard girlscout cookies this way.

Anyway, where are they going to fit those 8 thrusters. The skycar has only 4 and they are huge.
Personally it looks more like a PR gag than anything they would seriously pursue.

What confuses me is why is a company second only to Duke Nukem Forever in the vapourware top ten doing working on more new, admittedly cool in concept, ideas?

Please, let's stay on topic and not talk about Tesla. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Jibes aside, I think these guys are just trying to move past the prototype stage; the SkyCar probably had little future outside the occasional documentary cameo.

I'm going to make a bet. If it works, and makes production, I will buy it.

Why a 599? It's very heavy, very expensive and ruins a perfectly good car.

Oh Paul Moller. You haven't created a successful flying car yet. Don't butcher this poor ferrari until you figure out a way to make flying cars work.

Seriously, guys, this guy's a crank. He lives in Davis and has spent millions of investor dollars failing to get a car off the ground. Course, he's got no results to speak of, and yet he mouths off to wired and popsci as if he's the transportation messiah.
