Default Follow Up: GM OK's Renault/Nissan alliance talks...

... 3-way suckmobile already in production.

This is just a follow up to the article I posted here

Quote:
DETROIT Jul 7, 2006 (AP)— General Motors Corp.'s board of directors has voted to start exploratory discussions with Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. on a potential alliance between the three automakers, GM announced Friday.

The GM board authorized the company's management to "weigh the potential benefits of such an alliance in order to assist the board in its decision making," George Fisher, a member of the board, said in a statement.

Billionaire GM shareholder Kirk Kerkorian had been pushing for GM to consider an alliance with Renault and Nissaan in an effort to help the world's biggest automaker stage a turnaround and reverse its declining market share.

GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner will lead the talks.

If Renault/Nissan really do this they are completely insane. Really.

The way you turn around you falling sales is to make cars people want, at the price they can afford with style and quality. Why would you tie up with NISSAN and Renault unless you have forgotten how to do that simple thing. Renault took over Nissan when they had forgotten. Really sad when you think that GM led the world in car design in the 1950s.

Good news for chevy, maybe they will get some real engines that perform and get good MPG. But it maybe hurt Nissan/Renault.

I thought this might hurt Chevy/GM than Renault/Nissan. There are so many GM fan boys with Uhmerican pride, one would imagine GM siding with those "Gall'dern surrender monkeys" would hurt the image.

The French to the recue yet again! Oh the irony if a French company gains control, not only because Chevrolet was French, but also the millions of inbred Bush-bots will be so confused as what to do.

Thats what people said to Renault in 1999. You and others need to read up on Carlos Ghosen. He took Nissan from BILLIONS in the red to the most profitable car company on the planet.

If this merger happens, it will benefit all; I just cannot see a downside to this.

The only downside I can see is the GM monster dragging Renault and Nissan down with them. Can't actually see it happening though, especially as it isn't a merger, they're just doing a few cars together in all likelihood

This was in 2004, so Nissan is now NOT the most profitable, but in a short time span, they went from near bankrupt to that. Third paragraph down images/smilies/smile.gif http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3659109.stm

GM - Everything to gain
Renault / Nissan - Everything to lose

We'll see how this plays out...

I don't see how GM can lose on this, they have nothing to bring t the table while Nissan and Renault have alot to bring, so the weight is going to be over them.
