Default Geneva 2008: Audi Q7 V12 TDI

This 500bhp/758lb ft 6.0-litre engine is also going in the R8 V12 TDI, but its most obvious home is in the Q7.

This huge SUV is now set to be one of the quickest - 155mph and 0-60mph in 55 seconds - even if its fuel economy (20mpg) is hardly eco-friendly.

The Q7 V12 TDI also gets sported-up adaptive air suspension, electronically-controlled shock absorbers, carbon-ceramic brake discs, body kit and the option of 21-inch wheels; its interior has the expected full leather upholstery, sports seats and LED ambient lighting.

Prices will start from around - wait for it - £100,000.

Audi is highlighting this new model with a concept called Q7 Coastline, inspired by luxury yachts. This road-going gin palace is finished in pearlescent white paint with dark high-gloss grey grille and side air intakes, and its white-highlighted interior has velvet/leather seats, roof lining and trim, wool carpets, walnut trim and a dark smoked oak luggage-bay floor.

There is a wide range of great cars for that price to choose from.

I would buy 911 Turbo.

One of the most useless cars of this year? The Cayenne Turbo is quicker and probably provides the same level of luxury and is cheaper. This Q7 has all that torque but as far as I can tell it doesn't even have a towing hitch to pull anything.

Does a Cayenne? Also, does this looks like something a dog threw up like the Cayenne?

As far as a SUV goes, this is probably the best looking one around. Very strong stance.

I'm pretty sure that tow hitches are available for both the Q7 and the Cayenne. But this being a SUV with a diesel with 750 lb/ft of torque, I'd expect it to show that it's useful.

I think it's a good looking car. It has presence when you see it on the road.

I think it looks good, the Q7 is the only SUV I would consider buying.

A Q7 with a slightly de-tuned R10 engine??? No thanks. The thought of that is too scary.

This thing really has more torque than God!!!!!

I can't begin to imagine what this would be like if they ever offered a RWD version of it. Call me crazy but I want one in RWD trim images/smilies/biggrin.gif.

Changing the rear tires once a day. That's what's gonna happen...

If you want a fast SUV (for whatever reason) the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is still the way to go, it's the fastest, and the least expensive.

So here we have an Audi Q7 that is actually both slower and a fair bit more expensive than a Cayenne Turbo (costs £75'000). And despite it's diesel engine it only manages 1 -one- mpg more than the Cayenne Turbo with it's twin turbo, 500 hp petrol V8. And on top of that it's based on the Cayenne/Touareg platform, but it has none of the Cayennes off road trickery, like low range gearbox and lockable differentials.

So from this family of cars, I'd still stick with the Cayenne Turbo.
