Default Geneva 2008: IED Maserati Chicane

http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/motorshows/2008/geneva/ied-maserati-chicane/03-large/ied-chicane-f3q.jpg http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/motorshows/2008/geneva/ied-maserati-chicane/03-large/ied-chicane-s.jpg

Students from the Instituto Europeo di Design, Turin, are showing their Maserati concept at Geneva.

The Chicane is a small 2+2 rear-wheel-drive coupe with a front-mounted V8, more compact than the current GranTurismo. It was created by a team supervised by Pininfarina designer Luca Borgogno, Bertone design director David Wilkie and IED Automotive's Andrea Militello, and based on a design by Ukrainian student Dmytro Zyubyairov and Italian Oscar Palladino (watch out for these names in the future).

The Chicane project is said to explore the possibilities for a future entry-level Maserati coupe, a model known to be under consideration. A second IED project, the Maserati Sfida, is less likely to preview a production car; this virtual model is a two-door '2+1' shooting brake with large load bay. It was created by Roberta Baggio Worm (Brazil), David Rodriguez (Portugal) and Irma Elena Naya Ramirez (Venezuela). Other contributors to both projects included student-designers from countries including Russia, India, USA, Spain, Canada, Indonesia, Turkey, France and Romania.

I like it. It's still bit sketchy, but it looks promising. The name is bit too Mexican-ish though..images/smilies/lol.gif

Is it necessary to have the portholes in the doors?

If that's really a 2+2, I'll eat a hat.

Well the name is more than a little unfortunate, especially given the current political climate and whatnot.

I like the styling, very aggressive. But the shape is too obviously based off the Alfa 8C.

What's wrong with the name? I thought it was just the name for a corner on a racetrack? :S

While it looks funny on the 3/4, I do like what they've done with the headlights. Really incorporated it with the aggression of the front, and it flows well together.

IED is just the name of the design school, if it went into production it would never have that name.

So add one to the list of generic coupes bred from your average design school

Did they take a page out of the 1976 Corvette calendar for design inspiration on those wheel arches?

Anyone else see some similarities to the Fisker Karma? Might just be me, but the designs (aside from 4 Sedan vs. Coupe) seem eerily similar.

^ I see a tiny resemblance in the stance, that's it. The Maserati looks better than the Fisker, though it'll never look like that if it went into production.
