![]() ![]() Land Rover has given its LRX concept - first seen at the Detroit Motor Show - a black and silver paint job. The new example is being displayed in Geneva alongside the original white prototype. The 'baby' three-door Land Rover concept, considerably smaller than the Freelander , could potentially use different types of powertrain, though Land Rover is suggesting a 2.0-litre diesel-hybrid delivering 60mpg and 120g/km of carbon dioxide. Biofuel-compatible units are also possible. New features for the black and silver LRX concept include integral anchor points in the removable carbon-composite roof panel, useful for carrying snowboards or other sports equipment, black roof bars and a step above the rear bumper. There are new lightweight wheels and unique-design tyres, carbon-composite protective underbody plates front and rear, and bumper and sill mouldings. 'With its metallic black paintwork, silver roof and precisely detailed exterior features, the second version of the LRX concept is designed to show how well the vehicle can deliver a contemporary example of personalisation,' says design director Gerry McGovern. 'The LRX concept already has an abundance of character, but you can tune the appearance to reflect a customer's own personality and lifestyle. Clever use of colour and subtle additional details enable the vehicle to be tailored to suit an individual's style, without compromising the clean design of the LRX'. Land Rover says that there are no plans as yet to put the LRX into production and that the concept is 'designed to help us develop our thinking as well as gauge customer reaction.' Take it as read that this new small model is under development already - the LRX is probably just about fine-tuning the appearance and styling details. | |

| I want to hate it but the longer I look at it the more I like it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Land Rover give it great off road capability. Even the little Freelander/LR2 can hold their own on the rough stuff so they've proven they can scale-down and still keep the capabilities there.
