    Well, maybe the title is a bit of a stretch, but the Fiat Group and BMW have announced a partnership to develop a shared platform between Alfa Romeo and Mini, as well as to assist Alfa Romeo in its return to the US.

Cooperation may include support from BMW as Alfa Romeo resumes sales in the U.S., Turin-based Fiat said. Details of the project will be announced by the end of the year.

    ``It's like a niche marriage made in heaven,'' said Andrew Close, a London-based analyst with Global Insight. Smaller brands such as Mini and Alfa Romeo ``will struggle unless they come up with arrangements like this.''
