Default GM recalls 400,000 trucks

This is just a small stub article but should be duly noted.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,193793,00.html

Quote:
DETROIT — General Motors Corp. (GM) is recalling about 400,000 pickup trucks due to defective brake lights.

The affected vehicles are the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon from the 2004-2006 model years and the 2006 Isuzu i-280 and i-350.

GM said some vehicles may permanently lose brake-lamp function or have brake lamps that are always on. On vehicles with cruise control, that function also becomes inoperative.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company was not aware of any crashes resulting from the problem.

Dealers will replace the brake lamp switch assembly in the affected vehicles at no charge.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted GM to inquire about the issue after receiving three complaints, and the company issued the recall in response, Adler said.

GM notified NHTSA of the recall in a letter dated Friday.

Domestic bashers in 3...2...1...NOW!

At least it's not as bad as on some auto blogs, like...Autoblog, or LeftLaneNews.

Remeber that does not mean all 400,000 will have problems. Most will likely have nothing wrong with them.

You have to admit, it's pretty proactive to issue a recall after only 3 received complaints!

umm...It is a truck. It is supposed to have a live rear axle and leaf springs. If it didn't then the skid of shingles (1 ton, used my dad's truck for that) would most likely destroy the IRS and the tires due to the extreme wheel angle.

It is proactive of GM. It isn't too much of a safety related issue so it was very quick of GM to do this.

reminds me of a guy in the newspaper a while ago

he installed a button so he could disable his brake lights when a cute lady was driving behind him, he let them crash in his car (he beefed up his bumper with concrete) and then threated to call the cops, unless they had sex with him

worked for a while, is in jail now

I've heard the new Avalon is having a few problems with the drivetrain. But most recalls by Toyota are usually swept under the rug, because most media outlets view them to be God's gift to cars and infallible. It's bad enough that the anchors on CNN are pretty much plugging the Prius when talking about gas prices.

"Are Americans buying smarter cars like the Prius?"
"What will it take to get Americans out of their big SUVs and cars that aren't hybrids and into the Prius?"
Not to mention a whole segment about a "Prius Backlash?"

I'm guessing the same switch that activates the rear brake lights also sends the signal deactivating the cruise control. So you're driving along at 75mph and try to slow for traffic, only to find tapping the brake pedal does nothing but send you hurtling into the back of a milk tanker.

1+ year bump. Congrats although that's probably not the worst.
