Hard times. I really feel sorry for them.
That is right, General Motors owns a golf course and it is for sale.

Although the golf course is part of a much larger sale, they won't be able to give away some of the sites.July 2 (Bloomberg) -- As General Motors Corp. prepares to sell its best assets to a streamlined new entity, the worst of what it owns will be auctioned off in bankruptcy court, including contaminated factory sites, parking lots in Flint, Michigan, and a nine-hole golf course in New Jersey.
Hard times. I really feel sorry for them.
Yes, they're having to sell their nine-hole golf course. Which they mostly didn't use.
So, when's the UAW going to sell their TWENTY-SEVEN HOLE GOLF COURSE AND RESORT, hm?
Oh, that's right, never, because Obama keeps bailing out the lazy union assholes so they never have to "sacrifice" anything.Black Lake Golf Club is the newest addition to the UAW’s Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center, situated on 1,000 heavily forested acres along the southeast side of Black Lake, one of Michigan’s largest inland lakes near Onaway, Michigan.
Black Lake Golf Club complements the Center’s recreational facilities, which now include a beautiful gym with two full-sized basketball courts, an Olympic-size indoor pool, and exercise and weight room, table-tennis and pool tables, a sauna, beaches, walking and bike trails, softball and soccer fields and a boat launch ramp.
The UAW selected one of golf’s most acclaimed course architects, Rees Jones, to design an environmentally responsible, championship caliber course. It was a challenge eagerly embraced by Jones, Golf World Magazine’s “Architect of the Year” in 1995.
“The holes were here, we just had to find them,” Jones said. “We strive for holes blending with the natural terrain. There is nothing artificial or contrived at Black Lake.”
Rees Jones also designed “The Little Course,” a nine-hole pitch-and-putt with holes varying in length from 34 to 117 yards. An excellent choice for juniors, new golfers and families, the Little Course also provides experienced players an opportunity to work on their short game in a “real life” setting with bunkered and undulating greens.
By the way, most UAW members will never be able to go use these facilities because they're usually reserved for the big union bosses and their 'urgent meetings'. And before you ask, per the last financial statements filed by the UAW, it doesn't make money for the UAW.

I doubt that GM's golf course made them any money.
Actually, it showed a small profit in each of the years since it opened in 2002. Check the GM annual reports. And GM got an additional tax writeoff because they built the course on top of an old rubber component factory they owned (and therefore also didn't have to deal with potential residents claiming that the place was toxic).
The UAW golf course has lost $23 million over the last five years.

I knew you would turn this into a UAW hate feast.
Then why did you post it?
Let's see....
GM: Whining about needing money.
UAW: Whining about needing money.
GM: 9 hole golf course built on old factory site in (ugh) New Jersey to avoid lawsuits from future residents.
UAW: 27 hole golf course built on virgin forest land near Michigan's Black Lake.
GM: Handed over the place to the local townships immediately after construction to run as a public golf course.
UAW: Kept it as part of their $33 MILLION resort mostly closed to the public.
GM: Selling the profitable property to raise money and concentrate on core business.
UAW: Keeping giant resort to please the bosses, despite giant losses.
Hmmmmmmmm.... which is more despicable, now?

So is GM's. The more so since I'm pretty sure they didn't clearcut trees to make room.
GM golf course: 87 acres.
UAW resort: 1000 acres.
Hmmmmmm.......

..................

You've sold yours already? I'm still holding onto mine at the moment.
197At least the UAW course is in Michigan, not like they have to pay much to maintain the damn thing 6 months or so out of the year.
Golf courses outside of Florida and california don't make dick. American Golf used their courses from those 2 states to fund the rest of their operation in the interior.
edit: reading that bit about the GM course, thats actually cool they turned an old factory into a golf course, at least then it's not an old dilapidated building but (I presume) nice looking natural grass and trees.
