Default Honda become more gay friendly

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/h...e-gay-cordial/
Quote:
Most car brands that sell in the U.S. are defined as gay-friendly by the website Gaywheels.com. Only five are not, and one of them is Honda. The Japanese automaker took a step towards moving into the majority recently when it decided to begin offering insurance benefits to same-sex partners at some of its U.S. operations, which include the headquarters at American Honda Motor Co. Inc., the R&D facility in Torrance, CA.; its manufacturing facility in Lincoln, AB; and Honda Power Equipment Manufacturing Inc. in Swepsonville, NC.

While this decision is a step forward for Honda, it's not a big enough step to change its status in the eyes of the editors at Gaywheels.com. While the website applauds the move, a company must offer insurance benefits for same-sex couples to all of its employees before it can move onto the list of Gay Friendly carmakers. Honda, however, says it will be offering these benefits to all of its gay and lesbian employees in the next 12 to 24 months. Apparently its corporate structure is too complicated to do it all at once.

Alright, automotive news is a paid service only.....so I'm not too sure about this whole insurance thing.

But, why do couples get benefits simply for being couples? Shouldn't it be determined by whether or not you have kids?

You don't need kids to be in need of insurances. And the only reason they're couples is because many states outlaw gay marriages/civil unions.

I for one am all for gay couples to be recognized by insurance companies.

Why? Because it will benefit people like my wife and I, who never plan to have children, but get pigeonholed into a generic "family" plan.

Fuck that!

Insurance companies (In the UK at least) do not moralise, until civil partnerships you could (it was illegal to ask) not tell if someone was Gay. The 'amazing' thing is that if you have someone to live for. or someone you care for in you car then, surprise, surprise you do not want to hurt or kill them - you drive more carefully but these facts are returned in the claims experience and input dispassionately in to the rateing tables, QED.

And at the same time, since this doesn't deserve it's own thread, Ford allegedly becomes less gay-friendly.

Well, no, it doesn't, actually. It's just stopped targeted marketing at the gay community as it's advertising budget is about $2 this year.

Also, the American Family Association can go and suck eggs. What on earth do they have against car companies advertising specifically to gay people? How's it different to marketing to young people, the elderly, to families, to executives or whatever?

See, I was under the impression that anal sex was also for straight couples. You probably didn't mean to be implicitly ragging on LGBT in your post, but nevertheless, as NoBoss said, FAIL. images/smilies/blink.gif

Are they really that desperate to sell more cars and catch up to Toyota?? I can almost imagine the meeting that they had:

"Damnit, how do we boost our sales?? Toyotas have the environmentalists and the elderly, what about us??"

"I know what we can do..."
