Default Jaguar Concept-XF

http://editorial.*************.au/car...w/2268842.aspx

Quote:
The design language that will shape Jaguar's future has broken cover... And this time it's more than an obscure photo of a rear flank

Jaguar's new design language -- the key elements that will shape its cars going forward -- has been 'unveiled' in the form of a showcar a week ahead of its official first showing at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 7.

The Ford-owned British marque will show the sleek and aggressive four-door shown hereabouts at the important auto show wearing the name C-XF. Though official details on the car are scarce, take away some of the more aggressive elements of the show car and 'concept XF' clearly demonstrates the flavour we can expect from the car maker, which will replace its aging S-Type late in 2007.

Tightly drawn down over its wheels, the C-XF features an inset grille and aggressively scupltured headlights that eschew the XJ and X-Type's traditional four-lamp look. The concept car's heavily sculptured bonnet and sharply tapered rear end are more exaggerated than would be employed by a production car. That said all of these elements are said to be key aspects of the maker's 'language' going forward.

The showcar is a four-seat four-door 'coupe' in the mold of Mercedes-Benz's own Jag-fighter, the CLS-Class. The interior is typical over-the-top concept car, though impressions of the real thing can be drawn from the cockpit-style positioning. The XF itself will likely be a more conventional sedan inside and out.

The C-XF is has been overseen by Jaguar design chief, Ian Callum -- known Down Under for his role in tweaking early Holden Special Vehicle offerings as well as his work with Aston Martin before joining Jaguar.

Look out for more on the C-XF and other Detroit show news on CarPoint soon.

Hmmm. Better than the S-Type, but somehow it doesn't look like a jag in some way. Grill doesn't seem to flow well. I wish I was more like the past Jag concepts, like the RD-6 and the R-Coupe. Sure, they looked like the S-Type, but it was done much, much better.

I love it, bold and sleek.

It's lost all the fugliness of the RD-6 and the fish-mouth grille.

Well that one is about the actual car that will replace the S type, this is about a concept.

I like it. The front is quite Maserati and the sides and back are a bit Lexus. I can see a lot of Jaguar fans saying it's too visually loud, but then all that will be trimmed for the production cars.

The rear wheel needs scaled up quite badly though O_o

Great car, but that is not a Jag. It just lacks the "british" interior. I hope they fix that, because then I would buy it.images/smilies/wink.gif

The front is a little blunt for a Jag, but I guess it is taking it's styling cues from earlier models. I actually like it, it's bold and new.

I don't like it. I can't see the "jaguariness" of it anywhere. And that interior... Looks like Starship Enterprise riced by some 18-year-old. images/smilies/thumbdown.gif

I actually got a bit of a shock when I first saw this, thinking this was way too fussy. But it's ever so slowly growing on me. It's pretty much typical for a concept car, lots of fancy fussy details that won't make it into production. Typically the nasty chrome wheels, as well as the chrome grill, those wings in the front spoiler, and all that chrome at the back, wont make it or at least just be optional. I'm afraid though that it will lose that nice low roof line, to give moore than the Maria Stuart headroom it has in the back with that roof line. It was pretty much the same with the Advanced Lightweight Coupe two years ago. (Too much fussy details, then as well) Personally I think that translated well into the finished producton XK. Of course, on the pictures it looked a bit tall and ungainly like it's predecessor, but damn, it's gorgeous when you see it in real life, as i saw the new XKR the other day. There are very few images that does it justice.

When it comes to the XF Concept car I'm very optimistic. This is a proof that Ian Callum can draw more than one car, and it also shows that Jaguar are following their tradition of reinventing themselves. The E-type was new and radical in it's day, the same goes for the XJ when it was new, also last but not least the XJS...
