These are the firsy pics of the new masarati coupe. It's the follow up to the in 1998 dubuting 3200 gt. It's debute will be the autoshow in geneve.

The masaratie granturismo, is draw by pininfarina. It has a 4,2 lite v8 with a power output of 405 HP. While designing the idea was to make it comfortable and thus there is room for 4 persons. Also the weightdistribution is near perfect with 49% of the weight on the front and the remaining 51% on the backwheels.

Maserati doesn't call the new model a GT anymore but by it's full name; GranTurismo. That's a pointing finger to the first masarati in 1947. Also a Granturismo going by the name of a6 15000cc. That car was also designed by pininfarina and was built 58 times.
The new maserati coupe is a nice evolution of the old model. There are some returning style elements such as the big grill and the 3 airvents on the side of the bonnet.
The car will make it's debut on the autoshow of geneva, that will take place 8 till 18th of march. The new maserati can be expected shortly after that in the showrooms. The productionplant in modena allready stopped producing the old GT.

A quick translation. Nothing fancy but has the key elements.

I'm torn - from the rear it's stunning, and mostly so from the front too - but the mouth seems pushed out just that bit too far, dragging the headlights with it, making it a bit weird.

I'm sorry, but I don't like this... It just has 406 coupe taillights and a Civic's headlights!
Dsemaj is right... Quattroporte > this

these are the very first pics of the new Maserati coupé. It succeeds the model that dubeted in 1998 as the 3200GT. The new 2+2 will have its first appearance to the public on the Genèva auto salon.

The Maserati GranTurismo, drawn by Pininfarina, is equiped with a 4.2-liter V8 producing 405bhp. During design most attention was given to comfort, and they made sure it easily seats 4 (yay). Maserati did achieve an almost perfect weight balance with 49% on the front, and 51% on the rear.

Maserati will no longer name the model GT, but in full length GranTurismo, referring to the first Maserati roadcar made in 1947. a GranTurismo with the name A6 15000cc. (15000cc????) That car as well was designed by Pininfarina and there are 58 care made. The new Maserati coupe is nice evolution of the old model, besides that a few design-cues from the quatroporte return in the design - such as the grill. the 3 airvents on the side are a reference to the 4door as well.
On the Genèva auto show, which takes from march 8 - 18, the public will have the first change to drool over the new Maserati. You can count on the fact that it won't take long before the first ones appear in the streets, caus the factory in Modena has long changed the equipment in favor of the new model.

Those Autovisie guys were the first to publish this photo, and we Italians saw first the new Maserati from a dutch source. images/smilies/biggrin.gif However, it looks quite good, for sure better than the old Coupè/3200 GT, now 10 years old. The rear is very similar, I think, to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage one. However, quite a sin there'll not be a manual gearbox version.

Full Maserati press release:

Maserati GranTurismo - Worldwide preview at the Geneva Motorshow

Modena - 20th February 2007. The new Maserati GranTurismo, styled by Pininfarina, makes its worldwide debut at the Geneva Motorshow.

The Maserati GranTurismo is a muscular and sporty car, that can be enjoyed every day and at the same time is engaging for the driver. Its excellent handling and sportiveness makes it a point of reference in its category. The Maserati GranTurismo is built with particular attention to comfort, choice of materials and details and with enough room for four people, as only Maserati can do.

The new Maserati GranTurismo is a high-performance sports car, exciting to drive with a 4.2 liter V8 engine, delivering 405 HP, and a weight distribution of 49% at the front and 51% at the rear. It is fitted with an automatic gearbox and equipped with an adaptive control system which adjusts the gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions.

Maserati's tradition of the Gran Turismo concept dates back to 1947 when the Trident Company, following its clients' demand, unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow its first Gran Turismo, the A6, designed by the great Pinin Farina. It was the first Maserati road car and was produced in 58 units. The car was acclaimed by the automotive press for its advanced technical content and for its avant-garde style solutions.

The new model name - Maserati GranTurismo - is not incidental. Once again, the partnership between Maserati and Pininfarina gives birth to a car that is able to generate emotions and sets itself apart from competitors, due to the technique with which it is built and its unique style.

The new Maserati GranTurismo represents a further step towards the completion of the Trident product range, following the worldwide launch of the Quattroporte Automatic at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Love it! Much improved over the current coupe. Can't wait to see the Spyder and GranSport variants. Let's just hope the dynamics are also improved over the outgoing model.

That looks simply great...! The only gripe I have is the headlights which looks a bit out of place and streched down...

Fantastic looking car. They used the MC12 design language which is clearly visible. I agree the rear lights aren't that superb, and the front is indeed just a tad too much pushed out. But still, it approaches a DB9 in looks.
As a successor to the previous GT, which wasn't that beautiful, I couldn't have dreamt up a better design than this one. Maserati hit a home run. images/smilies/drool.gif
