Default New BMW 6-Series Edition Sport

Looks like a nice improvement, I like some of the improvements, and the alloys look nice.

BMW has responded to customer demand for a tauter 6 Series by announcing the availability of a new Edition Sport trim level for the grand tourer. While the new Competition Package offers a host of modifications for the M6, the Edition Sport follows along the same lines for the rest of the 6 Series range, including both coupe and convertible models.

The package includes a restyled hood and new lightweight 19" alloys, plus stiffer anti-roll bars and the anti-roll stabilization system borrowed from the M division. Brushed aluminum trim for the cabin and fog lights also form part of the Edition Sport, along with a couple of new colors. The 650i Edition Sport also benefits from a new exhaust system. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced for the US market, but the package commands a £1500-2000 premium in the UK. While we wait for word, you can check out the British press release after the jump and the gallery of high-resolution images below.

PRESS RELEASE

BMW 6 Series Edition Sport announced as M cars enhanced and prices revealed for flagship BMW X6

BMW's Grand Tourer gets new sports package

The BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible are now offered with a new sports package aimed at enhancing driving dynamics and adding a more sporting appearance.

Available on all non-M derivatives, the Edition Sport package comprises a new contoured bonnet for an aggressive look, bespoke 19-inch light alloy wheels and M anti-roll stabilisation system for improved handling. The suspension enhancement will benefit Edition Sport model customers with the insertion of stiffer anti-roll bars for a 10 per cent firmer front axle and a 30 per cent firmer rear axle rear. This results in improved handling and a more composed ride during enthusiastic driving.

A Brushed Aluminium interior, Extended lighting and the opportunity to specify one of seven colours, of which Imola Red and Carbon Black are new to the 6 Series range, completes the offering. Building on this specification, BMW 650i Edition Sport Coupés and Convertibles also come with a Sports exhaust for enhanced engine breathing and aural pleasure.

Prices for the new derivative of BMW 6 Series start at £53,445 OTR for a 630i Edition Sport Coupé rising to £65,820 OTR for a 650i Edition Sport Convertible.

That interior wood is just NASTY!

But the car looks nice from the outside. White is a good color too.

No matter what they do to it, to my eyes the 6 series will never look 'right' - the design just doesn't work with that raised boot and awkwardly detailed front-end.

i reckon there is a lot of influence from the GINA concept
look at the subtle bulges on the bonnet
and the little flicks and curves theyve added
its just like the little lines and flicks on the gina where the skin takes shape

very effective changes i reckon

You're right, which is why I hoped this may make it a bit prettier, but they've only managed to make it worse

that bonnet is an atrocity, almost rice, and why cover the interior in "chic" wood when it's supposed to be a rather sporty car?

That second picture makes it look so mainstream, put your hand over the front 1/4 and it looks Japanese...

Also, why do BMW always come up with new names for everything, didn;t they have something like an M sport package on other cars, why not use that nomenclature?

Is it just me or is this attempt at a Sport Edition a failure in regards to the "sport" aspect of it?

I mean, whats with that old mans wood in there. I'm sure you'd have a huge choice of wood trim, but that particular one is wrong for this press release.

And those wheels - those are the least sporty wheels BMW has. Why'd they choose those?!

I too find the 6-Series looks challenging. I'm not convinced with this model either.

So what they actually have done is give the 6-series some botox and a facelift ? Well....you can't exactly make it worse, so I guess they looked at Courtney Love and thought, "Yes, let's try that".

When I read the title I was expecting something with less weight, stiffer chassis, tuned suspension, perhaps a tad more power.....and they came up with this. Big time fail from Team Bangle once more.

Chrysler is the only car maker that I can think of that makes plastic wood thats worse than that. Wood just doesn't work with these interiors.
