Default New Mitsubishi Evo X FQ-400

http://autocar.co.uk/contentImages//Car/Mitsubishi/Evo/11288113915621356x236.jpg

Quote:
Mitsubishi has resurrected the 400bhp Evo with this UK-only model, the Mitsubishi Evo X FQ-400.

The new car, developed by Mitsubishi UK and its race team builder ADR Motorsport, promises to be the fastest and most expensive Evo yet.

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine has been boosted with revised ECU programming and a new exhaust to produce around 405bhp, although Mitsubishi hasn’t finalised the figures.

More important, it has around 400lb ft of torque, which will make the

car significantly more useable than the last FQ-400, which was based on the Mitsubishi Evo VIII.

Mitsubishi also says the car will be easier to drive because, unlike the old FQ-400, it doesn’t have a race clutch. The standard manual ’box can take the power, although the car will not be available with the twin-clutch SST transmission.

The power and torque enable the car to crack 60mph in around 3.5sec - 0.6sec faster than the Evo X FQ-360.

The car gets a new body kit with additional cooling intakes and vents, including a larger bonnet intake and cooling slots for the rear brakes.

The brakes are also upgraded, with six-pot calipers at the front, and the car gets new 18-inch alloy wheels.

It will come at a price, though. Mitsubishi indicates the car will cost between £45,000 and £50,000, up to £14,500 more than an FQ-360. And the firm is planning to produce just 100 of them, although it has indicated that it could build more if there is demand.

I apologize if this has been brought up before, but... why does the UK seem to get more variants of the EVO's than we do in the States?

Mitsubishi UK makes all the FQ variants. Supposedly the people at Mitsubishi Japan actually get quite pissed off with us making these variants as they see them as ruining the car.

Yep it was thirstier than the Ford GT which did 4 mpg but not as bad as the H2 humme which went as low as 2 mpg

*eyes £45-50k pricetag* that's about $80-90k here and for that money I'd still get an M3 sedan or RS4 and keep the change

I'd have to agree, turbo lag must be awful too.

Did you even read the blurb? Turbo lag won't be a problem. It produces 540Nm at around 3500rpm! (guessing the RPM, but you have to remember the old FQ400 didn't have MIVEC and used a stupidly large turbo, which this one does not) That's 30% more than an M3 at lower revs. That's as much torque as the chev LS2 6L V8 at lower revs! It'll be making usable "round town" boost at as low as 2,000rpm.

0-100 in 3.5s... images/smilies/wacko.gif Incredible.

That front splitter will become a "disposable item" like the Porsche GT3s.

Having said that, it looks brilliant.

Then why wouldn't I just get a Vette? This is just my opinion but making insane amounts of power through turbo charging an I4 is not my thing. You basically end up with nothing but turbo pulling you.

So does this one need to be serviced every 3 miles like the old one?

In all honesty I'd prefer a regular one - the bodykit looks ridiculous (I'd feel like a fool driving it), and as much as they claim it's more usable than the old model, and with peak torque at 3500rpm, I'm not convinced it would be a progressive power delivery.

I don't think the bodykit adds much more loudness and vulgarity to the factory body style, honestly they both look very boy-racerish and riced up, the FQ just slightly moreso. So basically youre saying you'd feel less a fool, but a fool nonetheless driving the standard X.
