Now all they need to do is get around to making a proper "race" edition of the SLR, and that includes getting rid of the leather seats and air-con. This SLK however should be pretty good...its like the most sporty car MB has but for some reason, they still left in the sat-nav and other luxuries...I wanna see the car stripped out!

The CF roof is dead sexy, and if it sounds like the F1 pace car then it's a special thing indeed, however:

With all of that work you would think they could un-ugly this thing. I can't decide if the front end is boring or ugly in a "melted in a microwave" kind of way and the sides look like sheet metal off Home Depot's shelf. Would it kill them to add a little character to the side of the car? An accent, a crease, anything to break up that plain of metal.

I still don't see why Mercedes doesn't offer a manual with the AMG. They need to figure that hey, if somebody's going to spend the extra money to get more horsepower, they want to be able to be more involved with the driving experience! So why not make a 6-speed optional instead of limiting it to the base model? They can engineer ElectroBrakeSensoDistronic ladyboy massaging seat pedal navigation satellite sensing systems, but they can't develop a manual suitable for an AMG?

Actually, you can get the new SLK in a manual form!

It doesnt matter if they offer a manual or not, maybe only 5-10% of MB drivers would opt for it

Yeah because MB are renowned for their excellent auto boxes. But they really should cater for the customer who wants to opt for a manual.

The Pictures in this post are of a stripped out version but still has AC, It's called the Track Sport. 35 of these were built for a race series in the far east. It has less power then the Sport @ 360HP. Thats why it had a solid carbon fibre roof and marked tow points.

^Yeah but only 35 of those are built. I'm saying that the SLK 55 "Sport Track edition" should have been stripped like this "Track Sport" model you have pictured because whats the point of claiming to have built a stripped out model if you keep the big fat sat-nav/DVD COMMAND system that all other "big" Mercs get?

Anyway...this model is kinda useless...prepare for the naturally aspirated, 481 bhp SLK 63 AMG later on in the year images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5870/slk63b2re0lg.jpg

//edit : I think I pictured a "Track Sport" model because of the fuel pump in the boot lid...

SLK 63???? The engine bay already looks filled out with the 55 engine. Would be one heck of a car.

Yeah, you can get a SLK with a manual. I just rode in my dad's friend's new-to-him 2000 SLK 230 (he got it today). All black, manual transmission, etc. Pretty slick.

He actually sold his Boxster to get it.
