Spied: Next-gen Porsche 911 at the Nurburgring

This latest 911 prototype was caught at the Nurburgring sporting 997 sheetmetal, but it's what's on top and out back that deserves note. A double-bubble roof panel has been fitted, while underneath the rear camouflage is a sizeable wing and additional ducting. Look closely and you'll see a small sill at the base of the rear windscreen that's assumed to be feeding the rear-mounted flat-six – likely necessary keep the boxer cool while Porsche engineers figure out how the new contoured roof affects aerodynamics. If previous reports are to be believed, we can expect the next 911 to debut sometime in 2010, but we wouldn't rule out an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Also, they seem to be releasing 911's with the daily paper these days.

I relly really want porsche to bring back the Whale Tail.. Looked great back then, no reason for it not looking great now..

The funny thing is they could run it with no camo at all and nobody would give it a second glance.

I'll admit it - if I saw it in person, I wouldn't be able to tell that it's a new generation 911.

They will call it the 1000 or whatever number is next. The car is still known to the general public as the 911. Most people call the new Mustang a Mustang even though it is the S197.

I think the new one is supposed to be called the 991... or something in that vicinity, not the 998. Don't know what sense that makes though.

well, the front bumper seems to have the foglights integrated to the upper edge of the bumper rather than being in the way of brake duct airflow.. so there's something.. *gasp* dare I say it.. NEW.. in the front end too.
