Default R&A Motorsports resurrects the Twister Special Mustang (without power upgrades)

Quote:
The never-ending stampede of Mustang variations continues with the "Twister Special" developed by R&A Motorsports of Lees Summit, MO. The Twister carries the same name as a limited edition Mach 1 that was developed as a promotion by Ford for its Kansas City area dealers back in 1970. That particular Mustang featured special graphics, a 428 SCJ V8, drag pack, competition suspension, upgraded front brakes, and a shaker hood scoop. It came in any color as long as you chose Grabber Orange.

Working with Classic Design Concepts, R&A Motorsports put together an appearance package that carries over many of the design themes of the original. A functional shaker scoop engraved with "Twister Special" resides in a more aggressive hood. A new front and rear spoiler gives the Mustang a more aggressive look, as well as the 20-inch Foose wheels wrapped with Pirelli tires. Also included in the package is a new grille with centered headlights, sequential taillights out back, Eibach lowering springs, and a Ford Racing exhaust. Coupes come with Classic Design Concept's glassback roof and c-pillar scoops, while the ragtop version features a convertible lightbar. "Twister Special" logos can be found on the front fenders, floor mats, and headrest covers, and each car comes with a personalized vehicle identification plate.

Only 96 Twister Specials are planned for production – 48 coupes and 48 convertibles- the same number produced as the original, and pricing for the package comes in at $12,995.

Great, as if we didn't need another Mustang variant right now. What are we up to, 45,676 variants?

Yeah, but they could, oh I don't know say, add more power? 13k for 'visual upgrades' seems like a rip off.

Yeah, but for 13K, that would've bought what, a decent supercharger and intercooler?

you guys have lost the definition of the word "rice".

being that this car looks DAMN nice and has decent stock power to back it up, its not rice.

rice would make this car ugly with retarded lookin graphics, a bodykit that looks like it was modeled after an alien spacecraft, and a gigantic aluminum wing.

no, it's rice. any kind of visual "upgrade" without the punch to back it up is rice.

i'm extremely sorry, but your logic is fucked.

there are acceptions to visual upgrades as to removing the SS/SC wing from my car and adding a less attention grabbing non-SC SS spoiler. or removing the hood and rear decklid and replace them with carbonfiber replacements and not painting them. but that's because it'll blend in DAMN well with the rest of the car since its black and it does add "some" performance by lowering the weight just a smidget.

"Rice" generally refers to someone trying to make their car stand out with "fast looking visual modifications" and not really doing anything to back it up. The Mustang is decent, so a slight visual modification isn't going to be 'rice' per se, but a bit disappointing without at least some power added. Now if you got one of those Saleen kits with the spoilers and 50 air dams and left the power alone, that would be rice. (iirc, the Saleen or was it Rousch, stage 1 mustangs you can buy are like that).

This car on hand isn't inherrently rice, but I garuntee anyone willing to pay an extra $13,000 for it could easily be lumped into the same category as a 'rice boy'.

Also, I welcome subtlety when it comes to visual mods...

At this rate, the rarest and most valuable version 30 years from now will be the plain GT model. images/smilies/tongue.gif

I dunno, I think this actually looks really nice, but not $13k nice. Adding $13k to a GT pushes the price up right around $40k, which is 335i and well-equipped G37 territory, and adding $5k more would get you a Corvette.

Then again, they're only making 96 of them, so we're leaving the realm of logical car buying and entering the "specialness" zone. I'm sure there are enough Mustang fans who are more than willing to pay $13k for a special edition.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd much rather see that 13k spent on performance parts. With that much you could go through the entire suspension, supercharge it, make it a real monster.

Well then set us straight professor images/smilies/rolleyes.gif. Pointless visual upgrades, especially absurdly overpriced ones, are generally ricey in nature. Whats this Mustang got? Paint, some vinyls and an "appearance package", including new spoilers, rims and a grille. With not one buck spent on performance, sounds a little like domestic rice to me images/smilies/wink.gif. Sounds even more ricey when you consider that the original 'Twister' Mustang was a beast, and this thing is only meant to look like the original.

That car is...
http://www.phyrefile.com/pic/2007/10/25/Pointless3.jpg

It just is. If you're going to make a homage to a classic car, don't just do up the appearance and claim it to be special. ESPECIALLY when the original had a leg up power-wise on what was an average trim line.

Utterly pointless, waste of time, money and space. Who the hell is going to pay an extra 13 grand for a car with no performance upgrades, whatsoever? They don't even earn the right to call themselves a "tuner company" producing such rubbish.

Those bits could probably be found separately for less money, if all you wanted was a bit of cosmetic surgery on your Mustang.
