Is there anything you can buy to put on your wheels to prevent a clamp being put on?

^ A wheel clamp on each wheel perhaps? Would be a nice anti-theft measure too...

I'd kick someone in the nuts. No, seriously, i'm not a violent person, so i'd do it without any anger or rush. Just calmly walk to the stupid, "cheers mate", kick in the nuts, "bad clamping cars innit", leave.

Shhh, don't tell anyone - people might realises were a joke!
Also - that's awesome, we gotta erh, clamp down...on these clamper's because they just take the piss. And to the person with the angle grinder idea, yes that works but you get done for Criminal damage Best way is learn how to pick locks and pick them off, you haven't damaged anything then

BUT, if you bury the clamp somewhere, they'll never be able to prove you did anything. You can blame it on a renegade who cuts down clamps on people, going under the name of Robin Hood.

Wouldn't it be possible to buy your own clamp and cheat them into thinking that it has allready be clamped? That would be awesome!

As far as I'm concerned, if it's YOUR car, YOU have a say as to what gets put on your vehicle, so if there's a clamp, and you don't want it there, you should be able to take it off your OWN car. Why not just ticket someone? It gets the message across without actually inconveniencing someone too much.

Granted, if this is all about creating jobs, I could see having a department in the Police that just delt with following up tickets. Less annoying, probably more government jobs created for all those yobs and chavs that are currently into boot clamps. Not to mention it gives you time to actually come up with the cash rather than being SOL and not being able to have the boot removed. Actually, what happens if you don't have the cash to unboot your car? Does it get towed and you have to pay boot removal + impound fees? Or does your car just sit there untill you can fork over the money.

It is all too complicated for me.
Here things are straightforward: you parked where you shouldn't (or commited any other violation)? You get a ticket. The officer writes down the details and after a few days you receive the citation in the mail. You can pay right away and get a discount, or you are obliged to pay it when renewing the annual license of your car, otherwise you can't get a license. If you're caught without it, the car is impounded. Simple as that. You don't need to pay in cash, in situ and the car doesn't get stuck until you paid it.

I thought the reason behind clamping was punitive -- intentionally to take your time.
Otherwise, the rich just park wherever they want and pay the fine later. As Clarkson once said (paraphrasing) "I could park in a car park and pay 15 quid, or park right out in front of where I wanted to be and pay 20 quid." And if you make the fine 500 pounds, then you hear nothing but sob stories about the unfortunate soul who made a mistake and then couldn't feed his family for a month... In general (and I know there are exceptions) people's time actually costs much less in actual money than aggravation. Steve |
