Default Residents Barricade Car Clampers

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...icle816845.ece

Quote:
FURIOUS families built a barricade of cars to hold clampers ‘hostage’ for three hours.
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00438/snn1924b384_438317a.jpgReleased ... car unclamped

The neighbours had woken up to find their vehicles shackled — even though they each had their own parking spaces on the recently-built estate.
Some refused to fork out the £125 release fee and instead called friends and relatives to create a five-car barrier — trapping the clampers and their van.
There were huge cheers when the clampers at last agreed to release eight cars already clamped — and their van was allowed to leave.
Estate management company Ringley enforced the measures without checking that residents had got their special parking permits in the post, it is claimed.
Just ONE person had received one.

Mum Lisa Stiles was in tears when she had to miss a hospital appointment for her four-month-old baby Ella, who has eczema, after London Parking Control swooped on the Vision estate in Southend, Essex.
Lisa, 29, who paid out £125 before the residents’ victory, said: “I’m on my own so I can’t afford the fee. I’ve been told I might not get a refund.”

Scott O’Brien, 20, who missed a doctor’s appointment, said: “I’m disgusted. I was parked in my designated space.”
Ringley sent out letters — which some residents denied receiving — saying it had acted because of “problems with parking” on the estate, which opened last May.
The firm was last night unavailable for comment.

Is there anything you can buy to put on your wheels to prevent a clamp being put on?

^ A wheel clamp on each wheel perhaps? Would be a nice anti-theft measure too...

I'd kick someone in the nuts. No, seriously, i'm not a violent person, so i'd do it without any anger or rush. Just calmly walk to the stupid, "cheers mate", kick in the nuts, "bad clamping cars innit", leave.

Well, considering they probably write down your reg number when they put the clamp anyway, you'll get charged with something anyway.

BUT, if you bury the clamp somewhere, they'll never be able to prove you did anything. You can blame it on a renegade who cuts down clamps on people, going under the name of Robin Hood. images/smilies/lol.gif

Wouldn't it be possible to buy your own clamp and cheat them into thinking that it has allready be clamped? That would be awesome! images/smilies/smile.gif

You don't even need to blame someone else, they have to prove that you were the one to cut it off. Wear gloves so you don't leave prints on the clamp and make sure you keep your grinder out of sight in the boot.

As far as I'm concerned, if it's YOUR car, YOU have a say as to what gets put on your vehicle, so if there's a clamp, and you don't want it there, you should be able to take it off your OWN car. Why not just ticket someone? It gets the message across without actually inconveniencing someone too much.

Tickets can be thrown away, ignored, and forgotten. Not to mention that Police really can't be bothered to follow up on parking tickets enough to pursue you. With a clamp, you have to call someone, you have to pay someone, you have to admit guilt.

Granted, if this is all about creating jobs, I could see having a department in the Police that just delt with following up tickets. Less annoying, probably more government jobs created for all those yobs and chavs that are currently into boot clamps. Not to mention it gives you time to actually come up with the cash rather than being SOL and not being able to have the boot removed.

Actually, what happens if you don't have the cash to unboot your car? Does it get towed and you have to pay boot removal + impound fees? Or does your car just sit there untill you can fork over the money.

It is all too complicated for me.
Here things are straightforward: you parked where you shouldn't (or commited any other violation)? You get a ticket. The officer writes down the details and after a few days you receive the citation in the mail. You can pay right away and get a discount, or you are obliged to pay it when renewing the annual license of your car, otherwise you can't get a license. If you're caught without it, the car is impounded. Simple as that. You don't need to pay in cash, in situ and the car doesn't get stuck until you paid it.

I thought the reason behind clamping was punitive -- intentionally to take your time.

Otherwise, the rich just park wherever they want and pay the fine later. As Clarkson once said (paraphrasing) "I could park in a car park and pay 15 quid, or park right out in front of where I wanted to be and pay 20 quid."

And if you make the fine 500 pounds, then you hear nothing but sob stories about the unfortunate soul who made a mistake and then couldn't feed his family for a month...

In general (and I know there are exceptions) people's time actually costs much less in actual money than aggravation.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure you can't be clamped more than once. Its the same with parking tickets.
