Default [Spy] 2008 Cadillac CTS Super-V

A "last hurrah" before the CTS gets replaced

We got up-close and personal with this Cadillac, and it's obvious that this isn't an "ordinary" CTS V Series! Although the V Series Cadillacs would be considered anything but ordinary, this is a far more aggressive model. Custom bodywork, huge rear tires, larger exhaust pipes, and an engine sound unlike any other CTS, leads us to believe this is the long-rumoured Super V Series. Sources are telling us that the all-new CTS may not arrive as scheduled for the 2008 model year, but may run 5 or 6 months late and enter the luxury-power races as an early 2009 model (in early 2008). And many are speculating that Cadillac will offer this exclusive "build out model" as a last hurrah for the exiting model.

We've been told that the car we shot is likely powered by the Corvette's LS7 powerplant, a 7.0-liter V8 with 505 horsepower. Powerful enough? If not, just wait for the next-generation CTS Super V with the rumoured LS9 engine – a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with 600 horsepower.

images/smilies/drool.gif I hope those engines find their way downunder to our HSV's!!

Caddy CTS is very appealing (despite sub-standard interior) but its too expensive. Especially that version JC tested (SRT?). This version looks bonkers, but you gotta get it in black IMO.

I've *never* understood the model years in America - how the hell is it a 2009 model if it arrives in early 2008? images/smilies/wacko.gif

images/smilies/eek.gif *cough* That's.... insane....

The flares are certainly aggro, but I don't know, they just seem a bit too OTT (especially from the front angle), a bit too aftermarket. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer a classier type of aggro.

Probably because the car will be produced through 2009 just as it will in 08.
But yeah, it should have been an 08/09 model or something

I like cars wide and low yet this is opposite and then "power is nothing without control" comes to mind

Yeah the CTS is just too tall and skinny looking, maybe they should do an STS Super-V it'll look a lot better.

lol, the CTS he tested was the CTS-V. SRT pertains to dodge/chrysler.
the bodywork looks all wrong, its a predominantly edgy car which now has bumps and bruises everywhere. but still, 600hp is quite a tempting proposition

that one has 530hp and costs $25K more than the CTS-V

http://www.lingenfelter.com/CTSVSC.htm
that one raises the power to 510hp and that costs $9K.

It looks horrible...no, beyond horrible, like it was tuned by an APC devotee. Proportions are all wrong; the "normal" CTS had some great, edgy styling, but those tacked-on fender flares contrast with the lines, and they've added some nasty skirts to make it look dropped. The rear bumper looks like they grabbed it off an Envoy, and used an exact-o knife to cut some exhaust mouldings. images/smilies/thumbdown.gif

We don't know if those fender flares will even make it to production.

It started back in the early 1950's. Back then the unveiling of a new car was a big deal, dealerships would throw huge parties, send out invitations, the works. Each automaker tried to catch the earliest publicity and make their car the yardstick by which the other's were measured. Eventually this turned into trying to get the cars in the dealership and on the road before other makers. Of course this was back when cars were only expected to last 3-5 years - so being the first one on your newly domesticated suburban street with the latest model year was a big deal.

Automakers kept stepping up unveilings to create buzz for the new models until where we are now - 2007s arriving in showrooms late in 2006, unveilings a year in advance and concept cars to indicate styling on future models (as opposed to the "future" cars of the 1950s).

I hope that clears it up a bit. It does not make much sense but it was an evolutionary process. I wonder how long before an automaker delays the release unil Feb. or even May so they are the only ones in the spotlight.

Usually a car model year in America starts in June.

The Cadilliac looks handsome, though.

I've heard that Cadillac may be coming to Australia, so I'm hoping that Super-V is to be built in RHD.

I don't get the American model years either, so even if it's been sold and on the road for six months by the end of 2005, it's a 2006 car? How can it be a 2006 car if it was first registered in 2005? (Here it's either first registered, built or complied, not sure which)

They do it like that in American?

In Australia we'd get the March issue at the start of Feb which makes a little more sense than getting it in January.

Where is the logic in all of this lol images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Doesn't seem to fit. I'm a fan of oversized vulgar wide arches really. But they seem to be going contrary to the rest of the design direction on that car.
