Default Spy Shots of the Maserati Gran Turismo Spyder!

Can I haz images/smilies/drool.gif

Hope they do give it the GranTurismo S engine as people are speculating, as that hard-top is gonna make that car even heavier

Never underestimate a car guy on holiday. That's the lesson to be learned by Maserati, which apparently left a Gran Turismo Spyder mule in a lot somewhere in Modena.

An eagle-eyed tourist snapped off a handful of pics showing the two-piece roof and articulating trunk in its earliest stages of development. Expect the Gran Turismo Spyder to make its debut in Paris later this year, with sales beginning in early 2009.

Going on holliday to Supercar Valley is always a great way to spend some time. It will be even more fun if you run into a very special car. This is what happened to Niels when he drove around Modena and stumbled upon some broken Maserati’s. He did what most people interested in cars would do, he had a quick look around, and thought he saw a GranTurismo. When he was standing closer to the car he realized it wasn’t an ordinary GranTurismo.

It is the GranTurismo Spyder. The car wasn’t being watched, nor covered up, just standing their between some broken Maserati’s. This Maserati GranTurismo Spyder will probably be powered by a 434 bhp strong 4.7 liter V8, the same engine you can also find in the GranTurismo S. You’ll probably need all this power to get some nicer performance out of this 1800 kg heavy machine. The Spyder is expected in the showroom around 2009, so this car will high likely be introduced during the Paris motorshow next month. Niels thanks a lot for these pictures!

I love the method of camouflage! Just make it look like a pile of rubbish!

I'm not sure why they would make it look so crappy. IIRC all of these "testing mules" are always returned to the manufacturer and often crushed or destroyed. Why they would leave this one sitting here to rot is a mystery

Really odd that's it's been left in a publicly-accessible place - would've thought they'd keep such things in a secure site. As for the styling - I can't say I'm too optimistic. The coupe looks so damn sexy - the weird proportions often demanded by folding metal roofs and all the panel lines could be a recipe for disaster. I hope not though, as a convertible version of the coupe could look stunning.

Should look absolutely stunning with the top down. I hope they can keep it stunning with the roof up.

If they bring that thing out with an uprated version of the 4.7 v8 with around 500 bhp, I guarantee Ferrari will not sell a single california.

Do. Want. Badly.

That would give a Merc SL a real good run for its money with that folding metal roof. I hope the proportions look right though...images/smilies/unsure.gif

Oh, man. Hard-top??? Put a soft top in it, please. Roadsters were to be made with soft-tops, not hard-tops.

Hmm looks beautiful if that the new spyder. Only to bad that it will be a hardtop I personally prefer a soft top. I hope it isn't a fake (early concept or so). images/smilies/smile.gif

pretty sure they are making it hard top because they think thats what the ppl with $$ want. You make the mega $$ and then tell them to cancel and make it soft top, and they'll prob change their mind.

Do some renderings with both a soft top and a hard top, and see what people think.

Soft tops these days are actually very good and can resist knifing, and they also use newer fabrics which give very good insulation and don't fade.

People are just ignorant I guess.

It looks pretty good, a convertible that hasn't gone stupid in the transformation. In saying that though, I'd still much rather the Coupe!
