Default Spyker to take over Lotus?

There are rumors that Spyker already signed some papers to take over Lotus.......any news about this from Great Britain?

Yeah i read an article about this, was in Dutch though and didn't saw anything yet at International sites. Spyker wants to buy everything.

What a great combo that'd be. Two crazy car companies.

Not sure about this. I mean how much money does Spyker actually have? They only have one car (yes yes multiple variants), they can't sell that many, they just bought an F1 team surely thanks only to creditors...

This isn't some succesful company with a history here. I'd be weary of them taking over brands i care about.

Remember, Spyker was started up by a guy who's already massively wealthy and apparently has cash burning holes in his pockets. Hopefully he'll be more sensible than other businesspeople who went on car buying sprees like Nikolai Smolenski, Tommy Suharto, or Jacques Nasser.

This sounds bizarre. I don't doubt Spyker could buy Lotus, but why would they? Spyker have a successful operation of their own, as does Lotus.

The main point is they stand for completely different things. Lotus is about lightweight cars with unbelievable handling. Spyker is about luxury, and bespokedness [is that a word?], and being ostentatious. The two companies' ethoses [ethi?] are practically entirely incompatible.

Now, if it was "Lotus to help out on next Spyker's suspension/handling" or "Lotus to build next Spyker for them", then I'd believe that...

Although right now Lotus look good in Proton, I would like to see Lotus back to Europe. IT's pretty much a win-win situation either way for Lotus.

Where does Spyker get all this money from? Are their cars selling that well?

Good question - I'd be curious as to how they not only find the money to buy F1 teams and car companies, but how they can fund them ongoing.

Spyker is part of a consortium which is (AFAIK) mostly owned by dutch millionaire Michiel Mol. There's also some Saudi cash involved in the operation.

The consortium also includes Internet-company Lost Boys.

As long as it involves putting some Lotus into the Spykers (mainly the handling), I wouldn't mind it. However, if they tried to Spyker-ise the Lotus cars images/smilies/puke.gif

Here's a thought, the Audi V8 that Spyker uses could be used in the next Esprit if this comes to fruition (or the Esprit and a Spyker are similar cars underneath)...

Or even better, they drop the Spyker name in F1 and Lotus returns...then only Johnny Herbert would be missing images/smilies/wink.gif

If I were the founder of Spyker and had this much cash to play with I would buy Lotus to get my hands on their design and team. Turn the Lotus boys loose on the F1 team and send them a few Spykers to play with. The Spyker has never really sorted out it's handling problem, but a team from Lotus could make it a really amazing performer.

At least, that's what I would do.

Spyker is owned by a couple of people some saudi and some dutch. They did get into F1 because they got alot of money from michiel mol who is a internet dude and is pretty succesfull at that. They got ferrari engines in their f1 because the saudi's who own a part of spyker also own like 5% of ferrari and they put some presure on ferrari. So I think it's a pretty stable situation that would benefit both lotus an spyker.

Well Spyker would certainly benefit from the handling gains the lotus enginears would give them.
