Default Thanks god!!! A Seat that probably won't suck!!

Quote:

If you reckon you can see a bit of Lamborghini Murciélago/Gallardo in the trapezoidal grilles afront this Seat concept, well, you wouldn't be the only one.

This is the Tribu, an SUV concept due to debut in Frankfurt next week, and the first Seat to spring forth from the pen of Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke.

Donckerwolke was the man responsible for drawing up the current generation of Lambos earlier this decade, and has recently moved across the Volkswagen group to sort out Seat's styling.

And it looks like he's off to a good start. The Tribu is a three-door, four-seat SUV with a coupe-style roofline and de rigeur panoramic glass roof that retains a few familiar Seat styling cues, but sharpens them up a whole lot.

The trapezoidal (that word seems to be turning up a lot at Frankfurt) shapes at the front end are definitely Lambo-inspired, while we also like the comically jacked-up 'arches and 20-inch wheels.

Of course, they're about as likely to make it to production as the hidden tail-lamp clusters (they're tucked in behind the rear hatch), but there's nothing wrong with a bit of high-concept stuff.

Though there's no word on what engine might power the Tribu, we fear there won't be Lambo power on offer. We do at least know that that the Tribus will have a choice of driving set-ups with adjustable suspension, engine management and gearbox responsiveness.

Will it get made? There's a good chance - Seat has said that it's looking to build a new SUV to sit alongside the Altea Freetrack in its line-up.

We'll have a closer look at the Tribu in Frankfurt next week.

I've always hated Seat's. Right here in Spain they are mainly bought buy douchebags who think a Diesel it's a sports car images/smilies/idiot.gif

And the design team at Seat must be the laziest group of car designers of them all (just after Porsche of course! images/smilies/tongue.gif) because they only got it right with the Altea.

So why design anything new??? Just copy/paste the Altea design and make it bigger (freetrack) or smaller (Leon) and that's it (And I want to forget the Toledo which was just an Altea with a Tumour in the back).

But it seems VW have learned their lesson and now they have hired the talent of Donckerwolke to change things a little bit. I just hope they don't screw it up again!

That thing looks fantastic. It won't last though, as 2 door 4x4s don't sell at all (hello Suzuki X90).

Also, I really like the current Leon. It looks good (yes, I know, same as Altea, but it works, especially with hidden rear door handles) and drives well. It's also great fun to chuck around a race track.

Shame about that. 2 door 4x4s have sold extremely well in the US from time immemorial. See the Jeep CJ/Wrangler, for example - as well as the original Nissan Pathfinder, Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco, etc., etc.

Touche. Exception that proves the rule? Although in fairness the Landy came in a 4-door model too...

Generally though I seem to recall that 2 door SUVs [as opposed to dedicated 4x4s] really don't sell that great in Europe.

I'm bucking the trend to say that I think it looks absolutely hideous... However, if this is a success (if it gets built), then good on them.

"exception that proves the rule" is a bullshit phrase. If it's a rule, it applies 100%, if there are exceptions, the rule is invalid.

I think it looks like a VW Tiguan with a Porsche Cayanne Nost and Lambo paint job. Kudos for turning Seats into fucked up VWs.

It looks big and aggressive from the front, but it's so tiny it's almost funny.

It looks good for a SUV, but I don't think it will ever be put in production. SEAT is a bit like Jaguar in that respect, they show incredible concepts in autoshows, and then go on to make things like the Toledo. I can only hope they don't screw it with the new Ibiza, which is due next year, because another flop like the Toledo could be a very serious blow to the company's future.
