As was the original. It looked wrong in every single way. People only like them because they are rare.

(I actually saw a genuine Superbird here, and it looked like shit. Fucking awesome, yes, but shit at the same time )

EDIT: Pic of the superbird I saw:

I think people only like them because the aero kit allowed them to top 200 mph in nascar racing and they put the same aero kit on the street cars.

I've always wondered something. Yes, the Nascar Chargers did hit 200mph, but I assume they also had longer gears, right?
And that wing - did they even try a smaller wing, to say that it's not enough, or did they put this one just because...well "just because"?

Those big uprights for the wing catch the air to reduce oversteer.

Are you sure about that? For some reason, I think they would do exactly the opposite.
I never thought about side-air resistance before, I would think that you would strive for less area on the sides, because you don't want too much wind resistance on the sides. But what you're saying seems to be exactly the opposite.
Anyone care to explain the physics on this one?
(I will open my physics book tomorrow, when I'm less drunk...)

Think about the uprights as the tail fins on an airplane. They channel the air vertically so when they move through the air, it applies equal pressure to both sides, stabilizing the rear of the car.

If that doesn't make sense, I'll try again in the morning.

Yeah, if the back end starts sliding out, the uprights are no longer parallel to the airflow so the air hitting the sides of the uprights will generate some sort of force pushing the car back.

Kind of like if you stick your hand out the window of a moving car and then start to rotate it, you feel the air pushing your hand up or down depending on which way you turned it. In this case, it's always pushing the car back the way it came from. I just wonder how much force they can generate.

I (jokingly) suggested to one of the guys at the HPP booth that they should have used a Charger as the base for their Daytona.

Also, one of the guys who built the Camaro-based Trans Am said that they are working on a '69 Trans Am convertible based on the new Camaro. That should be sweet.

One reason why the wing was so high on the original Daytona/Superbirds was because if it was any lower, you wouldn't be able to open the trunk.

Ahhh yes. It makes sense now. Clearly, alcohol and physics are not to be mixed.

That Mugen CRX? Best car in the show.

I'd also like three or four of those Camaro concepts.

There was a fair amount of carbage at the show, but I don't think that Miata was one of them. My nominees for carbage awards include the Spongebob Caprice that 73GMCSprint photographed, (If people customize their cars to attract members of the opposite sex, I shudder to think about who the owner of that car was trying to attract.) and a blue Porsche Boxster with no fewer than 3 nitrous bottles, scissor doors, and a hood scoop. Yes, you heard correctly - a hood scoop on a mid-engined car. I would have taken a picture of it, knowing that no one would believe a car that awful could exist, but I was afraid that my camera would spontaneously combust as soon as the shutter clicked.
