Default The new Mclaren is here...

Photos and everything (it's just turned midnight on the 9th of September and EVO magazine is on the ball)

New Mclaren MP4-12C

1st impressions are that it's very classy if a bit "generic" from the front, the rear is a bit "different" but not unpleasant. It has a very nice stance and very nice proportions.

The cabin looks classy too forming a cockpit around the driver echoing the 2 structural members either side if the driver from the F1.

UPDATE...

CAR magazine is also on the ball (-ish) but also have a HuuUuuuge press release from Mclaren...

HERE

That is a very classy looking car, even with the burnt orange color. Stylish interior as well, looks like a nice place to be. Job well done, Mclaren.

I like it a lot. It does have a 458 feel to it, at first, but after I look at it for a bit, it looks like the evolution of the F1. Its got some similar lines to the F1 (see the pic with the F1 in the background). Gonna be a great car, I think. I'm curious why they went with a turbo-8 instead of another V12... or a bigger NA V8.

I have just added it to the Cobol74 list of cars wanted but will never be able to have. ...

I'm wondering who helped them with the engine, Mclaren isn't known for them, BMW made the F1's engine and the SLR was obviously a Mercedes.

The only motor I can think of with this configuration is the old Lotus v8 from the Esprit, that was a 3.5 litre twin turbo v8 too.

I'm not suggesting they haven't done it themselves, just wondering.

Holy shit, that's a serious piece of kit. My only dislike is the rear. It's a bit odd, but overall it's still miles better than the new hideous 458 Italia.

I am sure it will be grand, but it looks pretty generic.

To be honest, I'd take it over the Ferrari 458.

Early reports suggested the car would use an AMG-developed engine, but latest indications are that the engine is completely new in design, smaller and more fuel efficient than AMG’s big-capacity units. It is also understood to be made entirely in the UK.

I believe its Mahle UK that did the engine.

More recently McLaren has been pushing ahead with the development of its own road car, which will be powered by a V8 engine, which will be based on the Mercedes AMG 6.2-litre V8 engine but will feature McLaren internals and will be built for McLaren by Mahle in Northampton. It is believed that the engines will be badged McLaren.

Mahle bought out the old Cosworth road car business in Northamptonshire.

You see Ferrari, it's not that hard to do a good looking car... Now go back to the drawing board and fix the California, 599, 612 and 458 :-p

For that McLaren, there is a serious amount of DO WANT in these pictures images/smilies/ohmy.gif

Reminds me of Honda's ASC concept from a few years ago, which definitely isn't a bad thing at all. Only thing I don't like is the apparent lack of a manual transmission.
