You know, there wasn't anything wrong with the hardtop to begin with.

According to Autoblog, the car is limited to a fairly slow speed with the umbrella roof attached. I'm figuring there's no storage place in the car for the metal roof. With the metal roof in place, the top speed is the same as the hardtop. With no roof it's limited to like 214ish, and then with the umbrella it's more like limited to 100. Makes sense to me if you can't take the metal roof with you.

I've read that with the umbrella attached, you're limited to 130kph.
If I were to be attached with an umbrella, I could run faster than that.

Well let's say you use the umbrella top for when it rains as you have left your roof at home. Would you drive flat out in the rain?

Being an emergency solution for sudden rainfall, I actually like the idea.

The lights in the normal Veyron came from an Skoda Superb, so giving this the lights from a RS6 would be a step up. images/smilies/tongue.gif I don't think that the lights have changed though.images/smilies/wink.gif

I think its quite clever, and all that bitching here is pretty annoying. I like the fact they came up with something new.

It' not exactly new. The Murcielago Spyder came with a similar contraption, but it wasn't foldable and it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure it's actually a very old idea from the time before cars had a roof by default.

That's because youre not an obscenely rich person nor do you probably think like one.

The targa is more exclusive, therefore more special to the buyer. The fact its more expensive means they show off that they 'spent more'

targa roof means 'can cruise around monte carlo, be seen and enjoy the sunshine.

the fact the top speed is slower than the hardtop is irrelevant for these customers. They will NOT be driving with their styled hair, supermodel GF with an open top at speeds 200+ mph. so the lower top speed is irrelevant.

Even the hardtop owners will almost never realistically have the chance to drive at 253 mph top speed, on any real roads as Tiff Needel pointed out in his veyron road test.

Ughhh.... that doesn't seem like the best idea for a $1.6million supercar that is capable of 200+ mph.

You know what I don't understand about the Veyron? The car is sold at $1,400,000 USD and they're sold at a loss of almost $3,700,000 USD per car, not to mention that they are several special editions of Veyron (ie. Pur Sang, Hermes, Sang Noir) which aren't included in the original count of 300 Veyrons being constructed. I'm surprise Volkswagen isn't broke yet.

What happened to keeping this car exclusive? I doubt I'll ever see a Veyron pass by me on the highway, but I thought the whole intention of this car was to re-invigorate the Bugatti name as an exclusive luxury brand. All these special editions just reminds me of all of Ford's limited production/edition Mustangs. Granted Volkswagen/Bugatti isn't making money like Ford does with its Mustangs and they are losing millions per vehicle, but that's even more reason not to make so many Veyrons from a financial standpoint. I feel that producing these limited-run vehicles just cheapens the make and the car itself. In terms of exclusivity, Ferrari and Lamborghini just do a far better job.

Sorry for the wall of text. These always come to mind every time I see another version of the Veyron.

I think that's changed, many UK car magazines are saying those 'special' editions are actually part of the total 300 car production count and including those, only 200+ cars have been actually manufactured to date.

VW lost a lot of money, This was Ferdinand Pietch's pet project prior to retirement as head honcho CEO. You can bet the VW accountants will never let him, or anyone else pull such a money losing stunt again. And i'm pretty sure Pietch waited until he was close to the end of his tenureship because he knew it would piss off the VW execs and wanted to do it when it wasn't in a position to hurt him politically.

He basically used his positon and power to make the Veyron his boyhood dream/ego trip at the expense of a lot of company money (about $3.5 billion US at least).
