I hate the Fast and Furious, and i I'm usually rather against Illegal racing, but I'm really looking forward to this.

For everyone that likes cross-country racing movies I would like to recommend the "Gumball Rally" from 1976, the best movie made on the topic.

that looks pretty good, is it a film or documentary or something? feature length docu-film?

that event looks like it had a lot of spirit and some good ingenuity and seemingly done with out much showboating or whatever. today alot of the gumball style events are for self absorbed idiots who just wanna show off, feed their ego and lord it in the most sick inducing "oooo loookkk at me, loook at mee" fashion.

gumball is just out of hand now, point proven when that guy hit and killed two old people whilst driving fast with little regard for anyone else and then just ran off instead of staying at the scene. shows them for what they really are. jerks.

but for some reason this doesnt convey that message as strongly

I know it's dangerous and all but it does look like a very good movie. I'll be downloading it when I can. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It's amazing how something like this, just 50-60 years ago, would have been nothing short of heroic yet now is viewed mostly as criminal. Have we completely lost our desire as a country to push the boundaries of technology in transportation?

I'll be seeing it. I love good documentaries, and that actually looks pretty well-made.

Instinctively I'm sure 90% of people would love to push the boundaries, its just that the whole "speed kills" bullshit kinda confuses people into thinking their murderers if they drive like any reasonable person otherwise would. People who drive ten under cause more fatal accidents, as well as massive congestion, but nobody writes nasty things about them in the news.

That applies to the Gumball 3000 and the likes, but i don't consider any of these guys in the same sort of league. These guys we're pioneering, the Gumball guys are just dick-wagging. I think you'll notice (historically) the the people who first start doing dangerous things are infact much safer and contemplative people then the copy-cats frat-boys that come along later down the road.

This movie has been delayed for like two years, it is finally supposed to come out in fall of this year. It is supposed to document the original Gumball Rally and US Express, "underground," cross-country races, all while inter-twining with Alex Roy's 2005 shot at the record. There are more videos, and if you are really interested pick up a book called, "The Driver," by Alex Roy it's actually a really well written and interesting novel, also good because Alex while flamboyant at times isn't a trust fund cock like most of the rally drivers he's interested in winning any way he can.
