ABC's "Castle"

Anyone watch the series pilot last night?

I thought it was quite good and shows a great deal of promise. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic have a good on screen chemistry and their timing is perfect.

For those of you who don't know the premise: Nathan Fillion plays Richard Castle, a successful novelist of macabre crime dramas who gets brought in to consult with Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) when someone starts murdering New Yorkers in ways portrayed in Castle's books.

It sounds rather ho-hum, but it has some really witty writing and great on-screen chemistry. Honestly, I was hooked 10 minutes in.

from what you described it sounds a bit like Bones (i've only watched the first few episodes so bear with me here).
it sounds like a good plot but i don't see how it could continue onwards as a series plot.
on the good side though i think Nathan Fillion is a great actor and since i'm a browncoat i'll definitely at least give his new show a shot.

It's abundantly clear that I love Bones (hence the sig). So if it's at all like that, I'll be pretty happy. I have the episode sitting on my DVR. Nathan Fillion is great and I liked Stana Katic (Canadian BTW) in the latest Librarian movie.

One of the first things they talk about in the film is that Castle killed off his main character. At the end of the pilot...

Castle uses the Mayor's fandom of his work to get attached to the police department for "research" as he has decided to introduce a new character based on Kate.

Except the actors are younger and hotter, the stories are more gory, and the on-screen chemistry and timing is fantastic.

But yeah, I can totally see how Nathan Fillion would make you think of Angela Lansbury from 1984.

I meant the whole "writer solving murders for the police" thing.

Finally watched the pilot. I thought it was great! There wasn't much detail towards the case as opposed to fleshing out this relationship between Castle and Beckett. We'll see if that changes at all as the series progresses. So in that sense, it wasn't like Bones...however it was similar in the sense that it brought a smile to my face, which Bones consistently does.

Bones also has Emily Deschanel, which really helps in that regard. Still, the actress who plays Beckett is quite the looker too.

Zooey, thought she's been great since i saw her in Elf with Will Ferrell and she was brilliant in HHGTTG. Don't know what it is but she's got something that always makes me smile.
Back on topic, from what i've heard from others in this thread i'll have to keep a eye out for this series. sounds like its got some potential.

Another show that progressively improved. News is that ABC will pick up this series, at least for another season, should be confirmed when they have their upfronts.

just watched the first episode of this show and i can say i am definately watching this show. Filion as always is great and the chemistry between him and Stana Katic's character definately sold the series. This is one series i'm going to be keeping a eye on.

that first minute made me so happy, even down to the western music touch made it perfect.
his daughter's remark "but that was 5 years ago, don't you think you should move on?" is the sort of remark i imagine aimed at those who still want Firefly to come back.
ah well, here's hoping at some point they have a Firefly actor as a guest star in a episode.
