About to buy a PS3... need advice

I'm about to leave the US within the next 2-3 weeks and would like to take advantage of the deals online.

I am planning to buy the $400 PS3 40GB. I read on wikipedia that the PS3 can accommodate up to 7 controllers but my question is what game can use 7 controllers.

I know there will be price cut down the line in a few months time what with MS being whipped in sales but play-asia would probably not reflect it.

Your generous suggestions are most welcome. Will either be connecting this to a 1080p LCD front projector or a 40-inch LCD TV.

Blue-Ray has nothing to do with HD-DVD. So the price will not drop for PS3.

My suggestion is to buy it through newegg. Just make sure to keep the receipt in case you get questions at the airport.

You'll want to pick up either the component or HDMI cable if you want HD 1080p/i. Otherwise, you'll only get 480p from it.

Monoprice.com is a good place to get your cables from. Any old HDMI cable will do the job. The 28AWG one of the appropriate length will work, and it's cheap. images/smilies/smile.gif

There are no games, that I know of, that support 7 controllers. I don't think anything supportss more then 4, even. The only reason the PS3 can support 7 controllers is because there are 4 lights on the controller to indicate which controller you are, and only two can be lit simultaneously.

I wouldn't believe there would be a price cut comeing soon. The PS3 is getting into its year. There are so many great games coming this year. Also, Sony needs to make back some of the money that it lost from the launch PS3s.

I own both an xbox360 and PS3, so far i own a reasonable library of games for the xbox, and just 1 game for the PS3. But it makes for agood bluray player. Also remember the 40 GB has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games.

same situation, 30+ 360 games and 2 PS3 games (folklore is quite a good little game ps3 owners)

If you have the PS3 Blu-ray remote, you will notice that it always connects to the PS3 as the 7th controller, leaving 6 open controller ports for games.

Erm, I don't reccomend buying one here if you're traveling, as they might not be region-compatible.

Good point, forgot about that:

PS3 games are region-free
PS2 games are region-locked
Blu-ray movies are region-locked <link>
DVD movies are region-locked

If you're not in the same region as the US you get shafted if DVD is anything to go by
