Sounds pretty cool, IGN gave it an 8.6, which is quite high for them:
"Set in the war torn, fictional island state of South Sahrani, you control a group of US soldiers posted on the idyllic isle to train the locals in the art of combat. However, when the island is invaded by the neighbouring North, you and your team are tasked with holding back the tide until the cavalry arrives. The main campaign is broken down into two sets of missions - essential and auxiliary. The plot-driven essential missions are mandatory - key battles of the conflict that can last several hours. Auxiliary tasks are optional, 20 or 30 minute operations which, if completed successfully, have knock-on effects on the essential missions. Unlike the majority of shooters - tactical or otherwise - Armed Assault doesn't cast you as a lone hero who can single-handedly win the war. Instead, you play as a soldier within a squad, who must work alongside AI teammates to outfight and outmanoeuvre the enemy on some of the largest and most freeform levels ever to grace a videogame. "Hardcore virtual warfare doesn't come any more realistic than this. Armed Assault's breathtakingly massive levels, gritty atmosphere, freeform nature and unforgiving damage model make it the closest you're likely to get to the real thing without running the risk of serious bodily harm. It's a game geared towards those of you looking to experience every facet of real life combat, from the endless trekking across grassy fields and hiding in ditches while waiting for enemy patrols to pass, to brutal long distance firefights and tank warfare. If this sounds like your kind of thing then Armed Assault is the game you've been waiting for, though for the more casual FPS lovers among you, it's likely to prove more than a little overwhelming. If you can look past the unimpressive, dated visuals and a serious lack of sheen (some poor interface decisions, occasionally suspect AI vehicle pathfinding, etc) then you’ll discover a superbly rewarding, compelling and authentic squad-based FPS, the likes of which haven’t been seen since Operation Flashpoint wowed us all those years ago." http://pc.ign.com/articles/766/766673p1.html So it sounds like the only thing holding it back are the graphics, but if the gameplay as good as IGN says, then that makes up for it. Doesn't look too bad: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

This is basically the sequal to Operation Flashpoint, one of the best games of all time. Sadly I don't think my aging laptop will run armed assault....

I'm surprised IGN gave it such a good review then....
EDIT: According to Gamespot the game "has been available in certain European countries for a couple of months now, those that held off for the UK release are set to be rewarded with a more polished game that boasts more vehicles and weapons." Maybe less buggy too?

I have the UK edition and I can say it's dam good, the graphic's are amazing (I don't know what their talking about dated visuals???), serious good fun. I haven't found any bugs in the UK version yet, the makers bohemia are usually pretty hot on bugs and addon's, so I wouldn't worry about that.
The demo is out if you want to try, it's got a few bugs though, apparent there will be a second version of the demo with a ton of fixes. http://www.armedassault.com/dwnl_demo.html Be warned this is not BF2, expect to die a lot Last edited by ruuman; February 23rd, 2007 at 12:18 AM. |

I'd recommend, starting with a capture the flag game and turning off the enemy AI so it's just you and your AI team and experimenting with the controls and squad based play as well as vehicles. The coop is seriously hard, I still haven't manage to beat it by myself. I'm trying to get my mates playing it, but as their more BF fans it's hard work.
Also use the sights to shoot as much as possible (double right click), also hold down the right mouse button to zoom in again and hold your breath. Good luck soldier.. /Yes I love this game to death |

stick at it, i'm guessing you never played flashpoint. That would make it 10 times harder
Don't ever be afraid to fall back. If your getting shot up it's usual the best tactic rather than trying to return fire in a panic

It has an extensive control system that is going to take a bit of time to master. I need to find a good tutorial or something

Downloaded the demo yesterday and within 1 hour uninstalled the hunk of junk. Full of bugs and too many controls. Graphics aren't nearly as good as 2142. This game reminds me of delta force and that was made a long long time ago.
