A new James Bond film has been given the go-ahead and is due to be released on 9 November 2012, film studio MGM and EON Productions have announced.
Producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and MGM said the 23rd Bond would go into production in late 2011.
The latest 007 adventure, starring Daniel Craig for the third time, will be directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes.
As long as it isn't a filler like Quantum.

Oh good! They were talking about this for a long time, but in early-mid 2010 it was delayed "indefinitely"
I'm really happy they decided to continue Bond.
To celebrate I think I shall watch one now. Perhaps something from the Connery era.

Drowning is very good after being set on fire, too, but that doesn't mean it's desirable. Or good in objective terms.
Spectre posts in a thread about a Bond movie. I hope other people are as amused as I am by this.
I never understood why they didn't start production as soon as they were done with Quantum. Surely, if your company is in financial trouble, you'd want to get a movie that will bring in ~$500mm as quickly as possible. It would be out, or nearly so, by this point if they had.

I'll be concerned if I find out he's bald as well.
As for this news, excellent. Quantum wasn't great - though I liked parts of it, the film did seem like it didn't know quite what it wanted to do, and oddly was just as good on mute with some different music playing - but I like Craig and was hoping he wouldn't be Timothy Daltoned out of the role.

I think it was because MGM was in truly bad shape. They were millions in the red, no upfront finance to back a significant investment like Bond, basically all they had were the copyrights they owned for their properties. They were desperately looking for a buyer or financier. No director/producer is going to step into a production like that.
I can't say I agree.
Obviously Sean Connery is #1, but Roger Moore is my #2. Then Brosnan, Craig, Dalton, and finally Lazenby.

This is exactly the news I've been waiting for since MGM's deal with Spyglass.
saw the news last night just as i went to bed. was great news and glad they are continuing the franchise. after last year and MGM's troubles, i really expected the Bond franchise to be put on hold and by the time a new one was announced Daniel Craig wouldn't be interested in another one. Especially since he's one of my favorite Bonds. While Connery, Moore and the others were all good. i've often found that Craig brings a bit more humanity to Bond.
also i do have to agree with SpitfireMK461. i seem to be one of the few people that didn't mind Quantum of Solace. Watched with Casino Royale it works more as a double act storyline. The choice of Sam Mendes as a Director i'm not sure about but thats mostly because i'm unfamiliar with his films. I really hope they get Dame Judi Dench back as well, she's great as M.

The franchise had been on hold amid financial troubles, with MGM filing for bankruptcy protection last November. A rescue deal and restructuring plan put US firm Spyglass Entertainment at the helm of MGM, which had struggled due to several box office flops and a DVD sales slump. Work on the 23rd film was suspended in April 2010 because of uncertainty over the company's future. James Bond is one of the longest running franchises in film history.
Its return marks a four-year gap since Bond's last outing in 2008's Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig - who made his Bond debut in Casino Royale in 2006 - is the sixth actor to play the British secret agent on the big screen, after Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. Craig's debut, in Casino Royale, was the most successful instalment in the franchise's 48-year history, taking $594m (£385m) at the global box office. The latest Bond screenplay has been written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.
