Hey guys, I've creeped on these forums for a long time now but this is my first time posting.
I've been a car nut for ages and been watching all the car shows I can. TG and 5G were defintely my favs but lately TG has gotten away from the car part of their show. I've watched a number of North American shows but they all just seem so boring or cheap. Elevator music and boring presenters, blah. SO ... I'm wondering what you guys all watch to get your car fix? Is there anything else out there I don't know about? And am I the only one who really would love to see a North American car show that doesn't suck?? Cheers, Darryl |

Well there isnt much in the way of good american car shows... Rides on TLC can be entertaining as can Unique Whips on SPEED if you like seeing big stupid rims on cars that dont need them. Otherwise i stick with top gear. Every now and then there will be a car based documentary on discovery. One of the best was future car.

Overhaulin is the best. Besides that, only the occasional car show on Speed Channel. Victory by Design is awesome, but not exactly North American.

Overhaulin is shit.... Chip Foose should be shot!... sorry, just my opinion.
Anyways, there arn't any really good american car shows. Basically you have to wait for a mini series or a speacial or documentary on cars to get anything good. Extreme 4x4 is pretty good, if you like the more technical stuff. Rides is ok, there used to be a show (on bikes) called biker build off, same with 2 documentaries on Discovery that circulated around choppers, they were good.

As already noted, there isn't much available for the eccentric petrolhead in the 'states. I can usually find something on the digital discovery/history channels, even if it's not about cars.
Most of the time, I'll just plug my computer into the telly and watch something that way.

Americans have no love for cars. Our shows suck because our cars are terrible.
Can't wait for season 10 of TG!

Overhaulin' is fun once in a while... but the annoying presenters and the fact that they're basically just doing up the same car in every episode makes it a bit "meh" in the long run... Also, the latest episodes have basically just been a paint job and chrome wheels... nothing in the way of modifications.
Wheeler dealers and Wrecks to Riches is also mildly enjoyable every now and then, but it's not exactly top notch entertainment. Victory by Design is cool, but too few episodes so far. Best Motoring International is entertaining, but they don't really mass produce translated shows. Same for Option International (I'm not really interested in the JP editions as I don't understand the language). Rides annoys me, Chris Jacobs seems like an idiot and the UK dub (Adrian Simpson?) is even worse. Just listening to them gives me a headache... some of it is interesting if you can filter those morons out, though. |
