EDIT: It seems this project consists of 4 movies that retell the story from the series changing some facts. Apparently the ending is different (thank god!)

actually the first one came out last year and it does look very good, they've updated the animation, sound effects and everything else for HD and such.
problem is though, when i first saw Evangelion i was like "wow, this is the best anime i've ever seen" and really enjoyed the End of Evangelion movie. But then they kept on releasing other versions, like a directors cut of the final 2 episodes, then directors cuts of the films and then there were the platinum dvd releases to which i had just about finally stopped caring about. It was good and the new film would have made me enjoy it all over again if only they hadn't done all that re-hashing they did with the dvd's.
Also in the time since i saw Evangelion, other better anime series have come along to take it off its perch. Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, Bleach and so on.
Only time i'll seriously watch Evangelion again is when they get around to that live action version. But they better not ruin like they did to Dragonball or what they appear to be doing to Cowboy Bebop.

Rumor has it that cowboy bebop is set for a US live action movie, with Keanu "I know kung-fu" reeves taking the main role of spike.

And im the only person in the world who thinks thats not a half bad idea

This is one of the reasons I don't like anime. I was told this was the greatest show ever made, and I found it lackluster. It had an incoherent story with biblical themes thrown in to make it seem like it had more depth. If you want to see animated giant anthropomorphic machines fight each other it is worth watching, but don't go looking for a story. The only good anime I have watched has been Cowboy Beebop, the rest I've seen is tat.

You dislike an entire form of entertainment because there was a single show you didn't like? That's like saying all Hollywood movies suck because Johnny Mnemonic wasn't a good movie.

As I have said I did enjoy Cowboy Beebop. The problem is most of the stuff I saw was formulaic crap. I don't care what the medium is, as long as it is entertaining.

odd, because i'm of the majority that not only don't want to see Keanu Reeves doing Cowboy Bebop, but also want to see a frying pan over the back of his head just for purely thinking he can pull off a Spike Siegel.
Unfortunately the only actor i can see in that role would be someone like a young Clint Eastwood.
As for Evangelion, like a previous poster mentioned. Evangelion is a acquired taste. I wouldn't use it as a introduction to anime since its a anime show that you either like or hate. Its usually better to start off with the normal staples of anime like Naruto, One Piece, Dragonball or Bleach. Out of those 4 shows you can usually guarantee there's one there that anyone will like and enjoy.

I should have phrased myself better. As I mentioned in that original post I do like Cowboy Bebop, which is an anime. I just don't like it in general due to the formulaic and lackluster shows which crowd it.
