Default FPS's better on PC or Console

Vote and explain yourself young man/woman!

I always feel that FPS's (First Person Shooters) were built for PC and work better on a PC (meaning that it's more intuitive). I think they're also not limited by the PC hardware and we've come out with more varieties for the PC than for the console.

TBH I don't play on consoles that much (because I'm a big PC guy and the only console I've ever really had is the Genesis). I did have friends in the dorms and whatnot that were big Xbox/PS2 fans to the brink of setting up a shrine for their console and praying to it before they took their final exams. So occasionally I'd hit up some GTA: San Andreas or of course... halo. This was where my dislike of FPS's for the console really sprung up.

I found the controls to be really silly and the hitboxes to be gigantically huge because aiming with the controller is more difficult and backwards than a horse race where the horses mount the jockeys and then run around the track. It's almost as if the game had to compensate for the lack of precision and intuitiveness of the controller. The aiming especially is given all these aids from the game to the point where even the stupidest, most down-syndromed 8 year old could flaunt his immense talents when in reality it was just auto-aiming. It took me a while to get the hang of it, by which time we were in the next level and things got a bit hotter and I get yelled at for sucking.

I know it's stupid to walk around saying "I'm the greatest at headshotting and you should all carry me on a golden carriage thing and worship me", but at the same time when you invite your friends to play it's stupid to be "that guy, that's so much better at games than everyone else because he's sat through the 11 hours and actually learned how to use the controller" (paraphrased from Zero Punctuation). I'm not having fun when the person I'm playing with has taken summer courses in the theory of controller usage and has surgically had his fingers widened or had extra fingers attached.

Anyways I've been rambling on too much. What are your thoughts?

Is this a joke? I think it's pretty much a general consensus that FPS'es are better on PCs. images/smilies/tongue.gif

A FPS clearly is a PC genre for me. Just the mouse alone makes up for perfect movement and quick aiming, playing such a game with a controller is borderline impossible for me.

PC here too, I could never get used to my inept thumbs handling two joysticks and overcompensating for movements.

Granted, it's so much easier to plop down in front of an XBox and play some Halo instead of finding a room and tables big enough to hold your and your friends' L337 gaming rigs, especially at my school where nobody knows what a LAN Party is (and don't even know what "pwned" means).

Hahaha, you may be surprised, there are a lot of people that defend console FPS's to the death. They're mostly 8 year olds... but.. images/smilies/tongue.gif

It's easy enough to just plop down in front of the comp and play over the internet instead of LAN, but yeah that's far less fun than spending hours upon hours lanning and then realizing you've skipped a whole week's worth of lectures. Good times. I loved lanning on Serious Sam (1 and 2) with my dorm buddies.

I thought this was about Frames Per Second before I can in this thread. images/smilies/lol.gif

Any way FPS's are way better on the PC and mostly it's because of the controls. I think there is a way to get a mouse and keyboard on the PS3 but I don't know how that all works.

Just compare Mass Effect on the PC to the 360 for example.

I started out on the PC, but when my computer gets old and I am reluctant to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade it, I move back to console gaming. Yeah, the controls aren't optimal, but they work once you get used to it. Plus I can play games like Orange Box, Bioshock, and Call of Duty 4 on my big 50" HDTV with surround sound while relaxing on my comfortable couch. But, now that I'm done with college I will be building a monster PC gaming rig images/smilies/smile.gif

The only time a console can be better for an FPS is in multiplayer. Yes, I know that you can play on a LAN, or online, on a PC - but there's no better multiplayer FPS experience than sitting on a sofa with a bunch of mates, drinking beer, eating pizza and playing some four-way split screen. The shouting, the arguing, the ganging up, the getting pissed off because someone's looking at your bit of the screen... it can't be beat.

For the majority of the time, FPSs are far better suited to the PC. But Timesplitters wouldn't work on anything but a console. When it comes to multiplayer, a console's pretty much always the better bet.

Except my HDTV is about 4.5 years old, so it doesn't accept PC input. I've already tried.

Mouse FTMFW.

I play TDU, GRID,GTR2, Rainbow Six Vegas2 and more all on my parents 55inch HD tv. I use a dvi-hdmi cable. I just love the mix between a big-screen and a mouse. Could not stand playing any sort of FPS with a controller. P.S. the racing games are played on a DFP.

Still. I played CoD4 on the 360 first and then on the PC... Same goes for GoW, both have been better on the PC, although games with a cover system are a closer finish as old school shooters...

Color of the sky depends on what position the sun is in, so it's both blue and pink (well...orange red-ish at sunset/sunrise) images/smilies/tongue.gif
